~ LOCAL EVENTS start of the second moto, but Rutherford, who gated second, wasted no time and made the pass for the lead down the back straight. Schwatka was the next to put the move on Lopez as he dove under the second-place rider in a hairpin. Lopez retaliated with some heavy contact to force Schwatka back to third. On the next lap, Schwatka would not be denied. He grabbed a handful of throttle and shot past both Lopez and Rutherford in the rockers to momentarily take the lead. Rutherford, however, had the better line and reassumed the lead in the next corner. At the _c1:1~ered fl;ig,_it was Rutherford taking the win and --'. tfie overall by a wheel from Schwatka. ~ Results PIW: I. Andy Morgan (Yam); 2. Brandon Boyd (Yam); ,. Clayton Labr (Yam). 60: I. Blake best at LACR Motocross By Greg Robertson 34 PALMDALE, CA, JULY 3 Suzuki rider Bob Blake turned in two convincing moto wins to earn the overall honors in the Vet Beginner class at the California Racing Club's Friday night motocross, held at Los Angeles County Raceway. Blake had control at the end of the first lap of moto one with John Albini, Max Selzer and Sean Hudson in tow. Blake stretched his lead to five seconds by the fourth lap. There was a three-way shootout for second place, with Hudson fighting off repeated challenges by Albini and Selzer. Blake led every lap and took the checkered flag. Hudson was second, with Selzer' looking for daylight around Hudson all the way to the finish. _ In moto two Albini edged out Hudson for the holeshot and held him at bay for one lap until Hudson out-jumped him into the lead. Albini wasn't giving up easily, and retook command when Hudson stuffed his front end in a sandy berm. Blake decided to open up the throttle and began his assault on the leders. On the third lap, Blake jumped past Albini then powered around Hudson in the next tum for the lead. Hudson stalled his bike and finished an eventual sixth. Blake again held a five-second advantage, which he held for hte last four laps to score the win over Albini. Albini's 4-2 finishes edged out Selzers 3-3 score for second overall. David Kaiser nailed the holeshot in the first Vet Novice moto in front of Bud Burchette .and Mark Huston. By the end of the first circuit, Burchette stole the lead. Harvey Bohman was on the move and came from a fifth place start all the way up to second. Bohman closed in on Burchette when he slid out in a tum, only to get going again in fifth spot. Daniel Tanner was having a great ride, as he inherited the runner-up position after coming through the pack from a seventh place start. Burchette went uncontested for the second moto win. Bohman appeared to be the fastest rider on the track as helassed three competitors in two laps. Secon place rider Tanner dropped to fifth when his front wheel overshot a berm and caused him to get temporarily stuck in the sand. Bohman was up to th~rd and right on Chris Perez's rear fender when the checkered flag fell. Bohmans second moto effort gave him the overall trophy over Perez's consistent 2-2 finishes. Burchette ended up third overall over Kaiser. Results P/W MOD: I. Jerry Martinez (Yam). P/W A: I. Seatt Howe (Yam). . P/W B·I: I. Chris Epper (Yam); 2. Eric Durrer (Yam): ,. Scan Collier (Yam); 4.
