Leivan lassos Show-Me Hare Scrambles win By Arlene Hejlek TEBBIITS, MO, JUNE 14 Steve Leivan was the overall winner at the seventh round of the Missouri Hare Scrambles Series hosted by Show-Me Motosports. Leivan's assault was waged from second position as he dogged leder Jerry Hemann while they circled the 7.5-mile course six times during the two-hour event. On the fifth lap Leivan took the lead when Hemann tangled with a lapped rider in a long and rocky creek bed. Answer/Silkolene/Pro Circuit!Acerbis/ Sprocket Specialists/Scott/Camelback/Surdyke Yamaha/Fredette Racing/RK Chainsponsored Leivan pressed ahead to claim the overall win by a two-minute margin. Hemann held second position while Leigh Letellier worked his way up from the back of the pack to finish third with fourth-place finisher Terry Gilliland on his heels at the end. Fifth overall went to Intermediate class winner Chris Graber who shot into the lead at the start and caught up to the tail-end of the Expert class on the first lap. While trying to make a pass in a creek secuon, Graber hit a rock and went over the bars head first into the water. A few nervous seconds-seemed like minutes as he tried to find the surface, but he made it and got going again without losing first position. Doug Frieze came out on top in the 250cc class battle while Dave Altman untangled himself [rom barbed wire and wrestled his bike out of a mud hole to claim second place when Gary Mittleberg dropped back with a flat front tire. Four-Stroke winner Ricky Matteson worked his way up from a fourth-place start to finish
