Spangler, Keller, Grable grab Eugene MX wins By Suanne Light Photo by Clay Light EUGENE, OR, OCT. 17 Joe Spangler, KTM USA's Rodney Keller and Ben Grable all shared one thing in common at Emerald Racing Association's motocross opener today; all thl'ee rode to I-I wins in their respective Pro classes under showery conditions. The 125cc Pro class kicked off today's program and gated a near capacity class. Spangler took off like a rocket to lead a fine field of southern Oregon all stars on his River Road Kawasaki while Wayne Church (Eastside Kaw/MX Fox), Larry Brumwell (Yam of Springfield) and Team LOP's Richard Earle (Hon support) gave chase. Spangler left the pack to fight it out over second in a three-way battle between Church, Brumwell and Earle, while a pack of Open Pros followed, led by Ben Grable (Albany Hus). Grable worked amidst the rival 125s, but found the going rough when faced with leader Spangler, who would shut the door on Grable's mighty attempts aboard his new 500cc Husky. At the half the order became Spangler, Earle and Grable, with Church and Brumwell trailing in the distance. Earle started a late rally and, with a lap to go, had closed the gap considerably in his charge to the front of the pack, but that would be as far as the LOP star would get. Spangler took the win in 125cc class and Grable the Open win. Moto two was a near repeat of moto one action, as Spangler again zoomed into an untouchable lead while Earle, Church, Brumwell, Bault and Grable pursued. Earle once again set his sights on Spangler, but Spangler would not be denied another win and carded a perfect I-I tally over Earle's hounding 2-2 and Brumwell's 4-3. Church was on an Open bike for moto two, but couldn't put a pass on Grable who also went I-I. The next best race to the 125s was the 250cc Pro contest, which like the 125s, gated some of southern Oregon's finest. Newly-signed Team KTM rider Rodney Keller (KTM USA/MX Fox) led at the drop of the gate over Steve Williams (Yam support/Herbs Cycles) and Rick Bault (Yam/Hon of Roseburg Yam). Keller styled out front, giving the spectators on hand a display of some of the smoothest riding seen in the Valley. Keller took the checkered flag for the win over Williams and Bault. The second moto had Williams launch a bike-and-a-half lead off the line to lead Bault into turn one while Keller ran distant mid-pack, amidst a wild pack of 250 Intermediates. Keller collected steam and one lap later moved by Bault to make another move on Williams for the lead, a move that caused the faint-of-heart to shutter. After that, it was Keller all the way to the checkered. • . .........._...._-15% OFF Regular Price on any Accessory Purchase t!. r\ UA U .
