Ulibarri doubles at Suntana night MX By Eric Raits SPRINGVIL LE, UT, JUNE 18 Expert Ken Ulibarri struck for a pair of wins in 125 and 250cc Expert classes at Suntana Raceway tonight. Clearly the night's fastest and smoothest rider, Ulibarri won all four motos he en tered. H e had to work through tra ffic in the 250cc class an d once clear, sim p ly ra n away fro m the other riders. Ulibarri had to work to sta y in front of 125cc Expert Ro ger Zeeman in the smaller class. " H e's fast," said Zeeman. " His Yamaha p-ulls a little more, and .he weighs 30 pounds less than I do ." Stephen Fullmer and Mar k Yonki n, first and second pl acers in the 250cc No vice Division One, earn ed promotions to Amateur status. Brent Hatfield made a lo t of 125cc Novices happy by also moving to Amateu r raci ng after another overall win . Mark Ah lin and Nathan Roberts p ut their H usq varn as 1-2 in Open No vice racing ahead of Randy Gray whi le Todd Braithwaite an d J eff Boyd were first and second in Open Amateur racing. Sco tt J ewett was the O pen Expert power, winn ing both motos afte r working past the Honda traffic of David Ch ild and Bob O lsen who finished secon d an d third. Kevin Fowkes won the second division of 250cc Novices over Bu tch Wils on an d Gary Gree n . Wilson, perhaps Utah 's most aggressive rider, 'sho t ou t in the lead in the first rnoto, then endoe d spectacularly. He too k the lead in the second mo to and responded to friends and flagmen all over the track who pleadin gly waved to him to slow down and stay upright and was rewarded with a wi n. Big buck racing continued at the Terry family's Wolfcreek MX today and on this fine ra ce day, Ex pe rt riders ben t it back for over $3,000 in cash while an enthusiastic crowd watched . Expe rt riders followed the exci ting Amateurs with Kirk " D' ville" Dill on (H on ) and Darren " Spoiler" Rhoten (Yam ) tak in g top honors in Expert raci ng action. H ig hligh ting the Amateur action was the race of the day as 31 125cc Intermediates ru bbed elbows for eigh t laps . Overall winner, Kawasa ki Team Green rider Bryan Abernathy, got the win bu t not the thrill of victory. Since moving to Intermediate action, Abernathy has only fail ed to win th ree motos, and one of them was in ro und two at the com petitive Wolfcreek MX. After taking ro und one with h is usual breathtaking quickness, Abernathy arrived a t the starting gate for round two. As the ga te h it the gro und, Aubrey Wri gh t (H on ) responded, taking the holeshot ahead of " Fast" Mark Filler (H on), J erry " Rude " Moody (Suz) and "A wesome" Abernathy. By the end of la p three, the race of the day was set with " Fast" Filler an d " Aweso me" Abernathy p ulling away from the field. Abernathy tried every possible angle in an effort to fly by Filler. As the white flag ca me o u t, Filler, not to mention every specta tor/ race fan for at least a square mile, was as nervous as an expec tant fath er. Aberna thy hounded Filler right down to the flag with Fill er th e victor of the dogfight by a very im portant bikelength . Abernathy took the overall win by virtue of the round o ne win as Filler finished third in ro und one, but in the recovery room the Filler Family was all smiles. The 125cc Experts had a tough act to follow as they bent it back for over 1000 big bucks as Kirk " D'vill e Dil lon took to p honors. In round one, Dennis "Max" Brand piloted his Arlington H o nda red rocket to the lead as Stovall Yamaha's Steve "Pacer " Pa te shadowed Bra nd in second while _Dillon took notes in thi rd.The change of " Pace" came when Pa te dropped his bike in a corn er, allowing Dillon to move in to second behind Brand as .. --------------------- !OEALERS...6ET 11TH IT!
