CMC Utah Holds Junior Meet By Bob Swenson Photos by Kurt Woolley SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH , Mar ch [2, [972 - CMC Utah held their first all-Junior mo t ocross race today at Fuller Raceway Park with made-to-order weather, The 125 Juniors put on the day's best show. Henry Smith (Pen), Ken Moore (Yam) , and Brent Barrett (DKW) diced head to head with one another for all three motos. Moore staved off the charges of Barrett and Smith in the firstrnoto . Barrett dropped his bike and Smith moved up to p ut the p ressure on Moore, but Moore took the mota with Smith and Barrett second and third. Moore got caught napping at the starting line and Smith went on to take the second and third motos. It was Smith's third win in t hree starts so far th is season. -e " '" '" a- There was a good field of 250 Juniors and they had a re al slam bang afternoon. The first mota saw Gre~ Burton (Hus) and Jerry Storm [Oss] going around the course like they were glued to one another. Burton pulled it out for the win. In the second moto Ralph Forsbee (Kaw) got ~ super hole shot off the line and managed to han~ on for the checkered flag. Burton (Hus) finis hed second. The third mota was a repeat of the first with ' Burt o n and Storm running first and second. Con.sistency was the word as th e Open JUnIor class saw Jim Page on his Maico just walk away from the res t of the fie ld. In the 100 Junior class it was John Page, Oims brother) who took all three mo tos wire to wire. It was quite a day for the Page brothers. N .... Going into the th ird heat, any of three ride rs could have won. Tom Miller (Bul) smoked th em in the first heat. Bob Walling (B ul) charged hard in the seco nd heat to lead. Meanwhile, Mark Mason (Oss) and T. Miller we roe figh ting through the p ack in an all -out effort to catch Walli ng . Mason did the trick, b ut not easily Go ing into heat nu mber th ree, it was all pressure. Miller m ust have figured three's a crowd because h e smo ked away from the pack immediately, leaving Walling and Mason to figh t it out. Third place changed a couple of ti mes with Mason finally outlasti ng Walling. Alan W,all on his Husky, will ride Amateur next time out. He ran away from th e 500 Novices. Suzuki 's smashed t he 500 Am/Ex class wi th Dennis Kelley winning the A ma teur class and Don Ha rtle, (No.1 desert racer) d o in g the job in the Expen race. (Results on page 56) '" ~ ~ ~. DISTRI B UTO R By R. Millcr LAS VEGAS, NEV., March 12 , 1972For the first ti me in Las Vegas Motocross club races there was a tie for firs t place. It was in the Mini -bike class that Bothwell, Zachery, and Zack all got aI , 2, 3, in their three h eats of racing. Starting with o ur next race, April 2, LVMC w ill go to In ternati o n al type scoring with the last heat being the tie breaker. Mark Milford (Hon) 3-2-1 was the most consistant rider in the 100 Novice class. Doug St ad tl an der (Yam) with a 4-3-1 got better every heat , though h e lost second place to Ch u ck Ch ristiansen, who finish ed with a 1-2-3 for th e day. Following a hard earned third in Cal. Sat., Pau l Williams showed t he troops the way aro und the track with two firsts and a t hird , Williams definitly was t he smoothest and t he fastest of the 17 Novices.
