home stretch. In the 250MX class, series points leader Justin Cooper, Mar- tin's teammate, seemed to have the overall win in the bag, win- ning the first moto over Rockstar Husqvarna's RJ Hampshire and Martin, and then running second to Martin in the late stages of the second moto. But then Cooper crashed hard in the rolling whoops that line Horsepower Hill, Washou- gal's signature climb, and ended up eighth. That dropped the New Yorker to third overall behind Mar- tin and Hampshire, though he did pick up two points on his title rival Jett Lawrence of Team Honda, who finished fourth overall with 7-2 moto finishes. After seven rounds, Cooper leads Lawrence by eight points (281-273). Finishing a season-best second overall was Monster Energy Kawa- saki's Eli Tomac who ran second in both 450 motos, but lost the overall on points, as Sexton tallied 45 points via his 1-3 moto finishes to Tomac's 44 points. Sexton and Tomac were the top two finishers, but it was Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha's Dylan Ferrandis who may have benefitted most at Washougal. The series points leader tallied 5-1 moto finishes for third overall and picked up 15 valuable champion- ship points on second-ranked Ken Roczen, who struggled in both motos due to illness. The French- man now has a 47-point lead on the German as the series goes on a two-week break, then finishes with a four-race run through the P64 LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP MOTOCROSS ROUND 7 / JULY 24, 2021 WASHOUGAL MX PARK / WASHOUGAL, WASHINGTON MYOWNRACE 45 PIERCE BROWN 5TH (6-4) 250MX Pierce Brown savored his best ride of his young Pro Motocross career. "This is my first visit here and it went really well, I'm stoked!" he said. "I loved the track all day long and I was really happy with the whole day. First moto, I ended up sixth, but it was a big improvement from how the last couple rounds have gone so I just used that to fuel the fire for the second moto. In the first couple laps, I was up there in the mix with all the boys so that was cool. It was my best moto finish and best overall yet." 51 JUSTIN BARCIA 5TH (4-7) 450MX Jus n Barcia was hoping to make it back- to-back wins at Washougal but his starts wouldn't allow that to happen. "I didn't get the best starts but I charged as hard as I could and felt like I rode solid. No excuses but it was a difficult track to make passes, and ending fi h overall—to me— that's a really bad week, so I'll take it." Chase Sexton crushed it in the first 450MX moto, scoring a wire-to-wire victory. A third in moto two netted the Honda rider his first 450MX overall victory since the end of last year.
