much faster than everybody on
the last 10 laps. I knew coming
into tonight we had something
good for them.
"I was kind of bummed I didn't
get the holeshot. But honestly,
it was good to pass Briar—the
champ and the guy who has
been a thorn in my side the
past two years. He's a hell of a
competitor and made me step
up my game so much the past
Mees worked his way through
with little drama and disappeared
off into the distance before the
two could settle in for any sort of
last-lap classic.
Halbert followed the title favor-
ites home in third, proving to be
the only other rider capable of
staying within 10 seconds of the
unstoppable Mees that night.
"Man, it felt so good," Mees
said. "Last night we were so
two years. So any time you can
go by your competition and walk
'em like that, you leave them
thinking."
For his part, Bauman didn't
want to waste too much mental
energy pondering it. He simply
marked it up to Mees doing what
Mees does on a track at which
he excels. "Ah, man, Jared is
just so good here. Once again,
he had my number. Let's just get
out of here."
Robinson, meanwhile, fin-
ished in fifth. He was one spot
behind his teammate, Brandon
Price, who won out in a four-rid-
er scrap for the position that also
included sixth-placed Bronson
Bauman and third Mission Roof
Systems pilot Jarod Vanderkooi.
Beach could only muster
ninth as an encore for his Friday
second, albeit a ninth less than
a second-and-a-half back of
fourth.
AFT SINGLES
Entering the Volusia double-
header, the primary angle in AFT
Singles action was "Dallas Dan-
iels versus the world." Leaving
Florida, that narrative had shifted
to "the return of Shayna Texter-
Bauman."
Despite her status as the win-
ningest rider in the history of the
class, Texter-Bauman heard the
criticism that came along with her
winless, 12th-ranked 2020 cam-
paign. That made it that much
sweeter for the Red Bull KTM
Factory Racing ace when she
upped her career Singles wins
