TIME OUT
FOR TV
With most of the races
being televised live, and
motos running back to
back as a result, there is
no more intermission between the first and second
motos. This presents new
problems for the riders,
leaving less time to recover
between the first and second motos. Ryan Dungey
admitted that the second motos are more important
now and the rider who is able to recover in a shorter
period of time will have the upper hand in the second

grabbed the holeshot to start
moto one. And after dealing with
intense pressure from Barcia for
half of the race, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider pulled away
to take his fifth-straight moto win
of the season. His streak would
end there, however, as a crash
on the opening lap of moto two
left him back in 16th by the time
he rejoined the race.
"I got a good start in that second moto, and Justin was in front
of me and I was just following
him," said Villopoto. "We went
into that far sweeper and it was
one big long rut and I was just
a little too close to Justin to be
able to see what was coming
and I ended up washing the front
end and went down. That made
it tough because everyone is so
close that a lot of people ended
motos.
"This year has been a
little different with the TV
schedule, the time between motos is very short,
and so it boils down to recovery time," said Dungey.
"You come off the race,
and you try to recover and
you try to eat and then you
find yourself back on the
line for moto two. So the
faster and better you can
recover, the better you're
going to be in the second moto. And you can see it in
the second moto, there's that push in the beginning,
and then guys are a little flat near the end."
