VOL. 50 ISSUE 22 JUNE 4, 2013 P59 Briefly... Ryan Dungey got what he needed and that was a win. would have turned out if Villopoto hadn't gone down, but for sure, Dungey knows he can't afford to give up a lot of ground at the start of a race and expect to win. "Obviously, the starts are key, and if you can be up front from the beginning then it makes it a lot easier, and that first start for me in moto one was out of the top 10, and from back there, by the time you get into third, the top two guys are long gone," said Dungey. "Those guys had 10 seconds on me and that was hard to make up, especially in the first moto when everybody's fresh." On the other hand, had Barcia been able to hold off Dungey and win that final moto then the overall would have been his, but the Honda Muscle Milk rider admitted that fatigue might have played into the outcome. In moto one, Barcia pushed Villopoto to the limits for the first half of the race, and the intensity of the battle may have taken just enough out of the Honda rider that he ran out of steam at the end of moto two. Barcia settled for second overall after turning in 2-2 moto finishes. "At the end of the motos, those guys seem to still be super strong, and I still feel good on the bike, but I think the fatigue thing is setting in," said Barcia. "I don't really feel tired, but those guys are just so strong and I need to get that. I still need to work on a few things, the two Ryans are just a notch ahead of me, so it will just take a little more hard work, and I'm just going to keep chipping away at it. But for sure, I need to work on being stronger at the end of the race." Looking to extend his win streak beyond the four motos he had won to date, Villopoto James Stewart didn't have any real answers for his lackluster day. He was way off in practice and couldn't find his mojo the rest of the day. "Practice didn't go good for us," said Stewart who went 4-6 for fourth overall. "I was kind of disappointed... I don't know, it was the first time in a while that I had a complete off day. I've had off practices but I always made it up in the main event, but today I just really didn't have anything. I didn't have any flow with the track. And it was pretty tough, with a lot of ruts and turns and jumps where you had to be pretty perfect on the motorcycle. So to have an off day on a track like that wasn't good. But we're going to make some changes this week, and I personally need to make some changes with myself, and then we'll come back strong for Mt. Morris." Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Dean Wilson did not suit up for the Muddy Creek race nor will he for any more races for the rest of the season. The 450-class rookie re-injured his troublesome shoulder while practicing during the week. Chad Reed was again off the radar at Muddy Creek. The TwoTwo Motorsports Honda rider is still struggling with an illness that he hasn't revealed much detail about. He soldiered on with 15-13 moto finishes for 12th overall. Adam Cianciarulo sat out Muddy Creek but will most likely make his pro motocross debut next week at High Point. The Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team rider continued on next page
