Despite the intense heat, Villopoto put on an amazing charge through the pack that brought him up to third by lap 11, but another tip-over dropped him back to fifth. On the final lap, Villopoto caught up to Trey Canard, who was running third, but he wasn't able to make a pass before the finish and had to settle for fourth. Villopoto's 1-4 performance netted him third overall. Despite the finish, Villopoto remains atop the series points standings and will carry the red number plate into next week's round at High Point while holding a 10-point cushion over Dungey, P61 Briefly... was diagnosed with the salmonella virus a few days after the Hangtown opener. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Darryn Durham returned to action at Muddy Creek but was not fully healed from his Hangtown crash that left him with a leg injury. Riding in pain, Durham went 14-17 for 17th overall. Tyla Rattray had a tough outing at Muddy Creek. The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider tried to finish inside the top 10 in the first 450 moto but ended up 11th. But things didn't get any better for the former World champ in the second moto. He went down in the first turn and caught up to 17th. My Plash/Star Racing Yamaha's Cooper Webb had another strong showing at Muddy Creek. The North Carolinian, in just his third pro race of his career, gave Ken Roczen a battle for a while in the first 250 moto before finishing fifth, but a crash early in the second moto when he got cross-rutted coming out of a turn ruined any chance he had of a top five overall finish. He ended up going 5-15 for 10th overall. Defending 250 Champion Blake Baggett rode hard and diced among the leaders in both motos, but his 3-3 moto finishes resulted in a fourth-overall placing. "It's not very often that you go 3-3 and finish fourth overall, but that's how the points play out I guess," said Baggett.
