Dungey up to second.
For the next 10 laps, Dungey
dogged Barcia, hoping the heat
and humidity would play into his
favor and the young New Yorker
would tire. And perhaps it did.
With five laps to go, Dungey
made his move, going around
Barcia to take the lead. With Villopoto having to work his way
up from 16th after his crash into
fourth at the finish, Dungey's second-moto win would ultimately
give him his first overall victory of
the season.
"I was doing the math in my
head and I knew a 3-1 would do
it," said Dungey. "I knew I need-
ed to pass Barcia for the lead to
get the win, and today was really
the first hot day we've had, so I
knew that hopefully I could wear
him down. And then when I got
the five-lap signal I knew I had to
make the pass. After that I tried to
drop the hammer and get some
distance on him."
