ing on their radio show for about
an hour. I also got to promote the
charity walk, the Springfield Mile
and all the sponsors who helped
put on the event."
Robinson said the most touching part of the weekend was his
and Robinson's visit to the local
children's hospital.
"I'd never been to a children's
hospital and didn't know what to
expect," Lewis explained. "Me
and Brandon and my wife went
in and the lady who was working
with us said, 'We have a fan who
is really excited to meet you.' We
walk into this room and this kid, his
name was Jayden, came running
over and takes us to this play room
and we sat down and started talking and it was like me and Brandon knew this kid forever. He was
asking us questions, 'How long
have you been racing?' and this
and that, so it was just a neat experience. He was going through
his third round of chemo. It was
just a real powerful afternoon. We
gave him T-shirts, posters, stickers. We visited four other kids and
Brandon said to me, 'Man I didn't
know it was going to be like this. It
was really meaningful.'"
The charity walk was Saturday
morning and Lewis said in spite of
the inclement weather it was a big
success. "We had over 90 people
sign up and more who just came
P31
up and handed me money saying
they wanted to help," Lewis said.
"We sold out of the T-shirts and
we were able to raise over 1200
dollars. It's not a huge amount of
money, but it's a start. Chris Carr
came out Joe Kopp, Dan Johnsen and Casey Cotton from the
AMA. Will, from the Fast and Dirty
came out and did a video. Dave
and Kathy Hoenig and their family
came out and took some photos
and then fans, and some people
who'd never heard of the racing,
but just wanted to participate in
the walk."
Lewis said he hopes to continue the charity event in the future.
