Nuzzolilli wedged into third at the
half. Sallstrom opted to sit out the
second half to see if he'd need to
defend his position and he didn't,
beating DeHart and John Koester to take the win.
Koester dipped into the sevens
to take the lead in the Unlimited
class, but Sallstrom rode next in
the order and shaved a 10th of a
second off Koester's time, posting a 7.868-second ride to move
into first. In second half action,
Phil Libhart fought back with
7.919 E.T. for second and Chris
Chartier, Jr. bested Koester by a
mere .001 of a second for third
place.
Six riders faced off in the Pro
Sport Class and the rookie,
Bleau, also posted the only times
under 10 seconds in the class.
Nick Drummer (10.044) finished
second with Josh Kobel edging
Angie Farnsworth off the podium
with a 10.15-second E.T.

RUSSELL PREVAILS AT JOHN PENTON
GNCC
Kailub Russell
won the GNCC
round in Ohio on
Sunday.

T
he race for the 2013 AMSOIL Grand National Cross
Country Championship just got
a little closer after Kailub Russell
claimed the overall victory at the
Wiseco John Penton GNCC in
Millfield, Ohio, on June 2. With
the win, Russell gained precious
points on championship leader
and FMF KTM teammate Charlie
Mullins.
Rain left the racecourse wet
and muddy, but apparently that's
just how Russell likes it. In a race
that saw many lead changes,
Russell eventually pulled away
from defending champ Paul
Whibley and Mullins to take the
win by over 30 seconds.
Mullins ended up second,
while Whibley, on the Am/Pro
Yamaha, dropped back to fourth
before it was over.
Kawasaki rider Josh Strang
got on the podium in third, finishing over a minute behind Mullins
in third.
KTM rider Chris Bach round-
ed out the top five overall.
After seven rounds, Russell
trails Mullins by 14 points. Thad
DuVall is 44 points in back of
Mullins in third. (DuVall was battling among the leaders but was
forced to pull into the pits and
replace a shock. He eventually
finished ninth.)
In the XC2 class, KTM rider
Grant Baylor captured his second win of the season, finishing
well ahead of Husqvarna rider
Nick Davis and KTM rider Zach
Nolan.
Former points leader Andrew
DeLong did not start the race
due to an injury, and defending
champ Jason Thomas suffered a
mechanical DNF.
Baylor moved into the class
points lead. He's now 19 points
ahead of Thomas and 33 points
ahead of DeLong.
