SUPERCROSS
MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUNDS 5 & 6 / FEBRUARY 2 & 6, 2021
LUCAS OIL STADIUM / INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
P64
has been getting good starts and
always hovering right around the
top five in every race, going 4-6-
5 at the Indy triple.
250SX East
After the Indy swing, and the
first three races in Houston, the
2021 250SX East Championship
is Colt Nichols' to win or lose.
He has established himself as
the fastest and most consistent
rider on the track and leads the
championship by six points over
his teammate Christian Craig with
just two rounds left. But it could
be more. Just when it looked as
though Nichols would all but put
hard hit, was slow to his feet and
limped across the finish line in
19th
.
"I was battling for the podium
and unfortunately had a lapper
come across on me and take me
out and that's pretty much how
the night ended," Barcia said.
"It's pretty disappointing."
Rightfully so. Barcia has now
slipped from first to fifth in the
championship and is 42 points
behind Roczen.
Tomac is fourth in the champi-
onship, 24 points back.
Hanging tough is Adam Cian-
ciarulo who is fourth in points,
33 points out of first. Cianciarulo
Tomac is third in points after
the Indy triple and is trying hard
to find his consistency and stay-
ing within shot of the title. The
Monster Energy Kawasaki rider
was doing just that after going
2-3 at Indy 1 and 2 and was eying
third at Indy 3 when thing sud-
denly went bad—for both Tomac
and Barcia. Tomac was pressur-
ing Barcia for a podium late in the
race when Barcia got taken out
by a lapped rider (Vince Friese)
who crossed over on Barcia over
a jump, and Tomac had nowhere
to go but into Barcia's crashed
motorcycle. Tomac recovered for
seventh, but Barcia, who took a
Eli Tomac (1) also got caught up in the same incident
that brought down Barcia at Indy 3.
Teammates Colt
Nichols (64) and
Christian Craig (29)
continued their
battle for the 250SX
East title. They
traded wins at Indy
2 and 3.
