Ironman Toby Price
even bit the dust in
2021. The tough-as-teak
Australian was right in
the mix with Cornejo
leading into Stage
Eight, but a monster
crash at the 65-mile
mark saw him out with
a heavy concussion and
injuries to his shoulder
and wrist. He'll be back
for more in 2022.
"Bang Bang" went
bang once again
in the Dakar. Joan
Barreda's Dakar
curse continued,
as the Spaniard
was a regular 2021
stage winner (three
in total), but he
crucially missed a
refueling station
on Stage 11 and
inevitably ran out
of fuel, putting him
out of the rally. The
Spaniard admitted
before the rally that
this year might be
his final Dakar on
two wheels.
