2021 DAKAR RALLY REVIEW

Remember the name: Daniel
Sanders used a factory-
prepared KTM 450 Rally to
take an astounding fourth
overall in his Dakar debut,
repeating the feat achieved
by Kevin Benavides when
he debuted back in 2016.
The Australian suffered a
few navigational issues and
several crashes throughout
the race, but he held on to
take a comfortable fourth.
Sam Sunderland
rode a nearly perfect
Dakar. The Briton
never finished higher
than fourth in each
stage leading up
to Stage 11, which
he won decisively.
While he positioned
himself well in the
overall ranking by the
penultimate stage, his
win put him at a major
disadvantage for the
final Stage 12, where
he bore the task of
opening the track and
lost masses of time in
the process. Still, his
2021 Dakar saw him as
the only factory KTM
rider on the podium in
third overall.
