Burton held down se cond place for mu ch of the rac e unti l Bill Phelp s slipp ed pa st with t ime run ning out. Phel ps made a charge at Caffey on the last lap, but a bobble in a turn allowed Caffey to motor away with the win and let Burton regain second place before the chec k ers. Burton put his Everfa st-backed CR250 out fro nt in m oto two to lead Caffey and Phelps . Within a la p, Ca ffey wa s sta rting to hound Burton for the lea d . Burton stay ed foc use d and kept Caffey at bay th roughout the ra ce to claim the overall win w ith hi s 2 -1 rides.
