Burr earned the number -on e 'plate in the BOcc class at the No rth Centra l A mateur Regional held in Beave r Dam, Wisconsin. The teen sensation also placed th ird in T ex as and finished seco nd overall at Dey tona. Illinois. won his firs t Fast T ime tr ophy and "F ast An dy " Fortner and Doug Campbell picked up do uble-class win s at the Pleasure Riders' hill climb. Sheets was engaged in a shootout with fellow Harley rider "Wild Wade" Schultz all night for the Fast Time award. Schu ltz turned in the fastest time of the first round on his 1200cc Harley with a blazinq 4.126-second ride in the Open cla ss. Sheets slipped under him in second-round acti on with a 4.125-second run on his Superior Cycle Sportster, only to see Schultz respond with a high ·fl y ing 4.102 -second run to tak e the class win and mo ve back up on the bubbl e. Sheets burst th at bub ble in a big way , how eve r, as he broug ht his 1200cc Harley back in the Pushrod cl ass and blasted ove r the top in an incredi ble 3 .956 seconds, tak ing a co nvin cin g win in the class and snatching the Fast Time aw ard . Schultz wa s seco nd wi th a very qu ick 4.] 73 -sec on d ru n in t he first ro u nd , having ta ke n that class lead into inte rm issio n as Sheets had ca rded a slig htly slower 4. 19 3seco nd time. Lane " U ghtning" Sch ultz fin ished th ird in both the O pen and Pushrod classes on hi s B50cc Nort on . Fortner's first win came in the 750 cc class, wh ere he , too. was battling the Schu ltz broth ers. " Fast Andy " ca me fr om behind a s he turned in a very fast 4.271 -second run on hi s "Hondasaki" triple for th e win . Mark Goodman J r. had set the tim e to beat in the fi rst round with a 4.3 13-second run on his Kawasaki triple, but that tim e was beaten in the second round by both Fortn er and Lane Sch ultz, who carded a 4.281 -second run on hi s Yamaha twin to take second. Boots Weber and Wad e Schultz, both Yama ha -mounted, pla ced fourth and fifth . Fort ner's second win came in the popular 400cc St ock cla ss, an ex h ib it ion cla ss (no po ints awa rded ) in Districts 15 and 17. Thirteen riders competed on sto ck· length bikes, with Fortn er sailing his Honda CR250 ov er the top in a very good 4 .25 1 seconds - a time that would Isanti County Fairgrounds: Shawn Burr (2) dices with his fr iend Troy Jo hnson (33) on his way to the 250cc Amateur win in Cambridge, Minnesota..Burr also snared the 125cc-class victory.
