McDonnell finessed his Harley·Davidson off the line mid pack in the Open A main event, behind Brandon Carnahan and Mark Corsetti. One by one, McDonnell picked off Waters Reigns at OTHG Motocross the leaders and then settled into the lead, BY CHRIS SANCHIRICO establishing a smooth, consistent pace. While the former leaders tried to play catch-up, McDonnell simply and patiently pulled out ahead of his rivals to take the win. "It was a real mind game," said McDonnell. "Anyone of us could have won here tonight. I knew that if I waited long enough, those guys would beat themselves and help me win." Second-year 250cc rider Jason Grewe took a wire-to-wire win by holding off the challenges of Harlund Johnson and Nick Moore. The Over The Hill Gang is one of the premier vet clubs in the nation, and it continues to tle developed for the lead between Gould, Putter and Fiore. Gould found his rhythm and put about five bike lengths on the second-placed rider. The hard-charging Waters began to make his move, reeling in Fiore and Putter and taking over second. Gould looked over his shoulder and saw Waters chopping away at his lead. As the duo entered two back-to-back doubles, lappers became a big issue. Gould was unable to double due to a lapper, while Waters went sailing by and into the lead. A couple of laps later, Gould lost two more positions in the same spot as Putter and Fiore flew over him. At the checkers, it was all Waters, with Putter and Fiore finishing second and third, respectively. Gould held on for a disappointing fourth. In mota two, Waters nailed the holeshot and went wire to wire for the win. Gould's luck went from bad to worse, as he cartwheeled his KX over the double following the start, injuring himself in the process and taking himself out of contention. Starwest local Jeff Hamblin used his experience - thousands of hours' worth of track time - to secure second place early in the moto, with Tallow applying all kinds of pressure. Tatlow stayed glued to Hamblin for the entire 20 minutes of the mota, but he could never pull the trigger to get by. Running all alone in a very distant fifth was Greg Turner. At the checkers, it was Waters with a comfortable lead over Hamblin and Tatlow. Hamblin's 5-2 was good for second overall, and T atlow took third with a 7 -3 score on the day. Results BEG: I. At the checkered flag, Grewe's lead was monumental. "I just gassed it hard," Grewe said of his runaway win. "And when I thought those guys were closing in, I just gassed it even harder." Kenny Carlotta, Clay Patterson and Sam Clark battled for the lead at the start of the XR100 Under 16 Non-Pro main event, with Carlotta snatching the position. Carlotta's lead, however, was short-lived, as the persistent Patterson quickly reeled in his nemesis and took over the point. With Patterson out front, the battle for second place became fierce. Carlotta slipped slightly off the groove, much to the delight of Justin Filice, who had just overtaken Clark for third.
