Cycleland/Cycle Concepts/Ridersville Cycles-sponsored Husqvarna rider David White was in the back of the pack off the Vet A start. White worked his way up through the class to battle with the leader, Jimmy's Cycle Sales/Bruce's Suspension/ Oakley·sponsored Yamaha rider Glen Holcomb. White took the lead when Holcomb took too much speed into a turn and had to bushwhack his way back onto the course. White took first place and Holcomb came in second. Yamaha rider Montie Orr was in the hunt for second but came through. the barrels with third. In the Open A class, KTM rider Darryl Campbell took the holeshot. Within the first lap, Bridgestone-sponsored Yamaha rider Randall Ellison worked past Sunrise Auto £, Cycle/Lewis Motorcycle Sports/Performance Tee's KTM rider Chuck Honeycutt to challenge Campbell for the lead. Ellison worked a faster line around Campbell and finished first with a four-minute lead. Campbell was second, with Honeycutt taking third. In the Supermini class, Zeke's Cycle Center-sponsored Kawasaki rider Timmy Craddock took the holeshot and maintained his lead throughout the race to take first place. Motor Imports' Kawasaki rider R.J. Ferguson recovered from a lastplace start to finish second. Powersports/Thor-sponsored Kawasaki rider Cameron Sobrito battled with Kawasaki rider Harvey Kidd, taking a fast line to get his front fender ahead of Kidd's and seize third place. Kawasaki rider Jessica Morrison nailed the holeshot in the Women's class. Within a quarter-mile in the woods, Powersports/ Alpinestarsbacked Kawasaki rider Christine Blake took a quick inside line on Morrison in a tight comer to seize the lead. Blake's bike stalled on a downhill, and Morrison came by to regain first. Morrison spent the rest of the race setting up a sizable lead for first place. Blake rolled through the finish in second. Honda rider Lorelle Dusky put in a consistent effort to take third place. _ Virginia Championship lIS Series Round 1: CIIestnut Mountain Greer Cracksthe Chestnut By HEATHER GREER GLADE HILL, VA, MAR. 18 Chili filled the air on the mountainside as more than 225 riders lined up in anticipation of the first round of the EBC/KBC/Pro Art Works/Tucker Rocky / Answer/Havo· line/Tsubaki/MSR/Pirelli/Cycra/Scot/ Creech Insurance/A Loop/UNI/ Underware/Silkolene/No Fear-sponsored Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series. During Saturday's preriding event, several riders got to take a peak at the track: smooth hills, with enough rock sections to remind riders that they were in the moun· tains. Many riders were impressed with the efficient checkpoints that took information while riders were still rolling. Casey Cycle City/Chick-fiJ-A/Factory Connection/Regina/FMF-spon· sored Yamaha rider Jason Greer boited ahead of the pack to take the lead in the AA class. On the third lap, Greer stopped for gas and to check his sprocket bolts. As he was pulling out, Champion Cycle/Moose/Smith/ IMS/EVS-sponsored KTM rider Doby Leonard latched onto Greer's rear fender. Feeling the heat, Greer got dialed in and pulled out a 30-second lead on Leonard going into the final lap. Riding a flawless final lap, Greer took the overall, with Leonard coming in second. Cycle Center/Dunlop· backed Kawasaki rider Tommy Handy put in a consistent ride to take third place. Coming on strong in the Supermini class, Cycleworld/Hardgood Board Shop/Werk's Engineering-sponsored Yamaha rider Bryan Happle battled with Kawasaki rider Dean Ingram for the lead in the 200cc A class. Ingram came off the start with a strong lead but went down in a rock section, which cost him a broken bark buster, a thrashed rear brake lever, and the lead. The two riders swapped positions throughout the final laps of the race, until Happle stalled out in some gnarly rocks. Dean took first place at the finish, with Happle close behind in second. Kawasaki rider Mike Lancaster captured third place. Bryant Radio-backed Kawasaki rider Tony Deal was wide open from start to finish in the 250cc A class. Deal took the holeshot and never looked back, taking first place. Three minutes behind Deal, Adas Honda/Litz Racing/Pro Action-sponsored Honda rider Ty Shipley nailed A 36 APRIL 26, 2000' cue • ea.- ....wn sa.. HII, Vlrgillia 1lesuItI: March II, Z.' Virginia Championship HS Series Round 2: Tidewater 100 Greer Rides the TideV\Tater By HEATHER GREER SORRY, VA, MAR. 26 he second round of the EBC/ KBC/Pro Art Works/Tucker Rocky/ Answer/Havoline/Tsubaki/MSR/Pirelli/ Cycra/ Scott/Creech Insurance/A Loop/UNI/Underware/Silkolene/No Fear-sponsored Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series started off with a roar - and, well, started off again. Due to a medical emergency on the first half of the track, riders had to be stopped and the race started over again. The false start gave riders a preview of the slick, muddy, rooty challenge ahead of them. Cycle Center/Dunlop-backed Kawasaki rid.er Tommy Handy took the holeshot as the hat dropped for the AA class. FMF/Acerbis/Purple Power/Hart Signage/Hinson-sponsored Yamaha rider Jason Greer got past Handy on an inside berm, with Motor Imports· sponsored Gas Gas rider Danny Morrison in hot pursuit. Handy hit a solid rut wrong and flipped his bike on top of him. This gave Morrison and Casey Cycle City/Chick-fil-A/Factory Connection/Regina-sponsored Honda rider George Greer the opportunity to get by. George Greer caught Morrison as he was cemented into a nasty rut that bent his shift lever. George Greer launched a campaign to catch his brother Jason', but Jason Greer was out of sight. Jason went on to take the overall win. George Greer took second place, and Handy recovered quite well and came in 30 seconds behind George Greer for third. In the 200cc A class, the mud and T roots didn't seem to slow the pace of Dean Ingram; the Kawasaki jockey took the holeshot and never looked back, taking the win. Fredericksburg Motosports/D£'D Cycles-backed Kawasaki rider Chad Parker held on to second until he hit a "bottomless" mud section and endoed. The entire class made its way past Parker, with Kawasaki rider Mike Lancaster and Cosmic Gear/Pro Classic Cyclessponsored Brian Morgan fighting for second. Morgan was ahead of Lancaster until he got tangled in some barbed wire. Lancaster came through the finish in second, and Morgan recovered to take third. Bryant Radio-backed Kawasaki rider Tony Deal grabbed the eariy lead in the 250cc A class. However, Deal was one of the countless victims of the tire-swallowing mud sections, and by the time he dug himself out, the entire class had passed him. O'Neal-sponsored Suzuki rider Travis Williford took the lead and the win. Kawasaki rider Jason Brown worked his way through the mud sections and rooty trail to nail second place, and Honda rider Stacy Jones put in a consistent ride to get third place. Cycleworld-backed Yamaha rider Eric Hytinen took the holeshot in the Four-Stroke A class, with Motor Imports-backed Kawasaki rider Danny Morrison and Sunrise Auto £, Cycles/Factory Connection/Hauser Automotive-sponsored Yamaha rider Mike Capewell right behind him. Capewell made his way past Morrison to chase Hytinen, but a nasty fall took him down and put him in last place. Capewell got going again quickly and recovered second, and battled with Hytinen in the mud sections. Utilizing good line choices, Capewell took first place, and Hytinen came in second. Morrison came through the finish in third. Coming off of the line, Cycleland/Cycle Concepts/Ridersville Cycles-sponsored Husqvarna rider David White passed the Vet A class in the whoops section before turning into the woods. Once in the woods, White was unstoppable, and he kept the lead the entire race. Jimmy's Cycle Sales/Bruce's Suspension/ Oakley-sponsored Yamaha rider Glen Holcomb worked his way up from a last-place start to go handlebar to handlebar with Yamaha rider Montie Orr in the mud. Holcomb started paying close attention to the Four-Stroke A class riders' lines and used that knowledge to get past Orr to take second place. Orr came through the finish in third. In the Open A class, KTM rider Darryl Campbell nailed the holeshot, with Motorcycles £, More/Bridgestone-sponsored Yamaha rider Randall Ellison right on his rear fender. Ellison slid past Campbell on the first lap, but realized that Sunrise Auto £, Cycle/Lewis Motorcycle Sports/Per-
