away, but with the constant pressure from Fuller and Clark, Granstorm wound up taking a soil sample. Fuller jumped into the lead and Clark moved into second. Clack continued to apply pressure to Fuller and, perhaps collapsing under that pressure, Fuller went down, which allowed Clark to take the lead and Granstorm to move into second. With just a'few laps left, there was no catching Clark. When the checkers waved, it was Clark with a clean sweep and Granstorrn second, with Fuller comjng in third. Tyler Kalisiak swept all four motos to win the overall in the 80cc Supermini and 80cc Intermediate classes. Despite Kalisiak's domination on the day, Chad Gores and Justin Mulford had a good day themselves, bringing home second and third in the Supermini class. Los Manantiales Malo - Not Bad At All By Lws RENE MONTANO LAGUNA SALADA, BCN, MEXICO, FEB. 27 Local racer Ricardo Malo, aboard his Honda XR600, was the overall winner of the first round at the Tecate Lighl/ZR Promotions Y2K series, which was held at the Los Manantiales recreational area at Laguna Salada, 26 kilometers west of Mexieali Highway 2. The desert course featured lots of whoops, sand and some more whoops, making for a tough race. The event consisted of one heat race for the bikes, two heats for the ATVs and a special race for the kids. James Shafer earned top honors in the 50ce kids race. Edgar Espinoza, aboard his CR250, was the race leader for the first three laps until Malo passed him, Behind them, A.J. Hoffman, Results 50 STRTR (4-6): l. Codl Z~rnlchow; 2. Blak~ Novellch; 3. Murray Supercross Track Orr Digs Gold Out of the Mud By DAVID H. SCREWS MURRAY, KY, MAR. 18 Riehard and Sherry Crittendon kept their fin· gers crossed all day in hopes that Mother Nature wouldn't rain on their race. With dark gray skies dripping a constant drizzle, it looked a~ if thunderstorms might rain out the third round of the Kentucky/Tennessee Motocross Association's Points Series Championship at Murray Supercross Track in Murray, Kentucky. But just as practice was about to begin, the great MX goddess smiled and the drizzle ceased; out came the equipment and down went the sawdust. Just 30 minutes later, the track was ridable - but slicker than an oil spill on a polished showroom floor. 65 (7-11): J. Nick Jackson (Kew): 2, B.J, Mashaw (Kaw); 3. Kyle Dortch (Kaw); 4. Bar None By KENNY MORRIS PERRIS, CA, MAR. 12 Randy Clark went 1- 1 to score first overall in the 250cc Intermediate class at Perris Raceway's inaugural Spring Series. With beautiful Southern California weather, the gate dropped for the first moto and Clark snagged the holeshot, with Donnie Fuller and Nilias Granstorm in hot pursuit. Putting some fast lap times together, Clark began to pull away from the pack, leaving Fuller and Granstorm to battle for second. Granstorm passed Fuller by keeping more momentum through the whoops. At the checkered flag, it was Clark, Granstorm and Fuller. "I've been working hard and I'm trying to stay focused," said Clark after the first moto. In the second moto, it looked like Clark would again take the holeshot, but with too much speed he overshot the first tum, which allowed Granstorm and Fuller to sneak by on the inside. Granstorm looked ready to pull 60 APRIL 19, 2000' eye I e n e WV s Slippin' and slidin', grittin' and gearin', 23 classes of points-seeking MX jockeys suited up for the four-lap heats and six-lap mains around the Murray circuit. Suzuki of Paris/Chris Grissom-sponsored Kenny Dale Orr dug in and managed to sling the slippery stuff in three separate classes: Schoolboy, 85cc Senior and Supermini. Orr was on his way to a three-class sweep when he lost his hook on the face of a tabletop with less than a quarter of a lap to go in the Schoolboy contest and fell victim to the lubricated loam. In an instant, he dropped from first to fifth and exited the race after the checkers shaking his head at his misfortune. In the 125cc C class, the Suzuki & Honda of Dickson, Tennessee-sponsored Matt Perales took both the heat and main with a commanding performance over the field. The battle in this class was between his teammate Allen Nagel and Keith Wallace, a Suzuki pilot out of Kentucky. In the heat, Nagel couldn't quite find a groove on the slippery circuit and he had to settle for fourth, while Wallace finished second. In the main, Nagel and Wallace both found their rhythms and, with Perales out front, they settled into a mudfest match to see who would take the second spot on the podium. Not to be outdone by his teammate, Nagel held off Wallace and took home the points for his second-place finish. Yamaha-mounted Joey Redman, a MidSouth Motoplex of Clarksville, Tennesseesponsored rider, made his presence known in the first two rounds of the KTMXA's Championship Points Series. With track conditions improving as the evening wore on, Redman continued to pile on the points with podium finishes. Riding hard and smart in the 250cc C class, Redman took both the heat and the main, leaving Scott Stewart of Tennessee and Chris Thompson of Arkansas to finish second and third, respectively. 50 (4-8): I. ROBERT RUDER CARLSBAD, CA, MAR. 25 Randy Bruce won the Riverside Old-Timers Expert class at Carlsbad Raceway on his brand·new KX250. Bruce came around the first lap in third; Dennis David was in the lead and Alan Ronrabacher was second. Bruce passed Ronrabacher before the second lap was compieted and heid second for the remainder of the mota, unable to reel in David, who held on for the win. When the gate dropped on the second moto, Bill Schultz got the holeshot, with Bruce in second. Schultz slid out at the bottom of the downhill, handing the lead to Bruce, who now had Dan Willenborg breathing down his neck. On the next lap, Willenborg was in the lead, but Bruce was not about to iet first place go without a fight, and on lap four Bruce regained the lead and then held it for the remainder of the race to take the overal1 for the day. David placed second and Willenborg took third. With the Riverside Old-Timers Novice class on the line, the gate dropped and Ed Rodzach was in the lead with the holeshot. Richard Goldfuss was right behind him, and DeWayne Stark was third. Halfway into the race, Asker Larnkjaer, who was riding fourth, started to pick off the competition; first he passed Stark, and then he started working his way up to Goldfuss, who was in second. Goldfuss held on for a couple of laps, but Larnkjaer would not be stopped, and he took second and held it to the finish, following Rodzach across. When the gate went down for the second moto, Goldfuss had the holes hot, with Rodzach in second and Larnkjaer in third. Having won the first moto, Rodzach wanted to make it a sweep. He passed Goldfuss on the first lap. Larnkjaer was not going to be left behind and he moved into second, pushing Goldfuss back to third, and this is how the moto would end. Rodzach took the win and the overall for the day, Larnkjaer heid on for second, and Goldfuss took third. MSTR A; 1, Hootle Davis (Hon), MSTR B: J. Toby Takl (Yam): 2. Graves has consistently won the Formula One event at the California high-desert racetrack throughout the past year. However, Graves wasn't too djsappointed, since Harrell rides as a member of Graves' racing team. At the start of the Formula One race, Jeff Hagan led Jeff Short and Curtis Adams. On the first lap, Adams passed Short for second, and then drafted and passed Hagan at the start of lap two.
