CORNS MIWKEN, CO, MAR. 5 Two Rivers Racing at Milliken hosted the first round of the Rocky Mountain Motocross Association Spring Series, and 17-year-old Tim Velasquez guided his Pro Motorsports/LSEsponsored Kawasaki to a convincing win in the 250cc B class, while O'Neal/Colorado Rec/Motul-sponsored Chad Ruggles dominated the 125cc B class. The RMXA season opener attracted more than 550 riders and 1200 spectators who enjoyed the best in racing conditions, with temperatures in the middle 70s. In the 250cc B class, Colorado Powersports/Spy-sponsored Blake Woodman edged out TNT/Scott-sponsored Greg Wertz in a side-by-side drag race out of turn one, with Yamaha-mounted Stewart Rafus and Velasquez ready to pounce. As Woodman slipped to third on lap three, Velasquez rocketed his to< to the front and proceeded to pull out a three-second lead. Kendall Stafford put in a strong performance, climbing up from sixth to finish second only four seconds behind Velasquez at the checkers. Woodman. Wertz and Dean Haight, who had just taken the win in the Over 40 A class and was running back-to-back motos, rounded out the top five. Velasquez, a former Mini-class standout and a probable threat in the bigger. bore classes as well, ran wire to wire in the second 250cc B moto for the uncontested overall. Stafford followed suit with another runner-up finish and was one of the few riders to make up ground by clearing the uphill triple. With two laps to go, Woodman utilized the same tactic and launched past Rafus and Haight to take third. Yamaha-mounted Travis Mullins drafted in behind Woodman with a last-lap pass on Rafus and Haight for fourth. Mullins' finish secured fourth overall, and Height's 5-6 locked up fifth. Ruggles clearly controlled the first 125cc B moto aboard his YZ125. as Colorado Powersports riders Jeffrey Brewster and Brad Hendry landed on the podium in second and third. respectively. Jason Guerrebo and Aaron Wersinger, another Colorado Power· sports-sponsored rider. rounded out the top five. The second 125cc B moto turned out to be a nail-biter. Ruggles pulled the holeshot. with Wersinger in tow. Velasquez held down third, with the remaining top 10 following in tight formation. Just when it appeared that Ruggles was about to check out, Velasquez overtook Wersinger and began to eat away at Ruggles' five-second lead. With only one lap remaining, Velasquez overtook Ruggles and put an exclamation point on the pass by stretching out a six-second lead at the checkers. Ruggles held on for second. Steve Trujizzo pushed his Yamaha past Wersinger for third. Hendry rounded out the top five. Velasquez's 8-] finish was good enough for fourth. Ruggles claimed the overall honors. Wersinger, Hendry and Trujizzo capped off the remaining top five overall positions. Connor Olson (Cob); 2. Austyn Keller (KTM): 3. Nicole Wlkox (Lem); 4. Robin Richardson (tITM); 5.
