combined 80cc race at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway, winning both motos with ease.
The 14- to 16-year-olds raced with the 12to 13·year·olds in one long gate. Parker
jumped out in front, just ahead of Tony Westbay and Justin Jenson. Beni Williams led a
charge with Devin Sullivan and John Stafford
that put him into third, behind Westbay.
Williams battled with Westbay for a while
before fighting his way past into second place.
Parker set a blistering pace that no one
else could match; only Williams could keep
him in Sight. Parker took the first race with
ease. Williams finished a strong second. West·
bay claimed third (and first 14- to 16-yearold), leading Sullivan, Jenson and Jeff Page
through the checkers.
Williams blasted out in front in race two.
Parker quickly fought his way into the lead.
Westbay settled into third, ahead of Stafford,
Jenson and Joshua LaFountaine. Parker
quickly established a commanding lead, leaving Williams to circulate a lonely second. The
action was all for third, as Westbay held off
challenges from Stafford and Jenson. Parker
never let up, putting in another strong effort
and corralling the 80cc (12-13) overall crown
in the process. Williams smoked across in
second for second overall. ahead of Westbay.
who wrapped up the overall 80cc (14-16) trophy. Stafford and Jenson rode wild for the last
lap, and going over the last tabletop, Stafford
swooped ahead of Jenson. When both races
were tallied, however, Jenson edged Stafford
for second overall.
Derek Holt hammered at the 250cc
Novices on Sunday, taking over the second
race. His victory allowed him to eke out the
overall title in this ultra-tight class. Lanie Gjor·
dano was out in front of all the other Novices
at the start. Aaron Byrd fought his way to lead
Novice before lap one ended. Next, Greg
Zarategui blasted into second, making it a
three-way fight for the lead. Byrd couldn't hold
off Zarategui, who took over the point before
the white-flag lap. Meanwhile, Holt had diced
his way into third. Zarategui was the first
Novice over the line, leading Byrd, Holt and
Giordano, still tightly bunched.
Not satisfied with his first·moto third, a
more focused Derek Holt showed up at the
line for race two. He led all the Novices
through the first lap, with Byrd and Giordano
giving chase. Zarategui came charging up in
the middle of the race to take over third. Out
in front, Holt continued to increase his lead,
eventually scoring a solid victory that would
just squeak out the overall 250cc Novice tro·
phy for him. Byrd was able to pull away in the
closing stages to claim second and second
overall. Zarategui fended off a late charge
from Giordano, hanging on to third for third
overall. The scores for the top three were tied
at the end of the day, making the overall finishing order the same as the second·moto
results.
