CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series Round ,: Forster Livestock Pavilion Romero Ravages Salem Arenacrossl By CLAY LIGHT SALEM, OR, NOV. 4 Y amaha-mounted Anthony Romero has recently stepped up his riding ability, and now the rider from Eugene finds him- self at the top of the heap in the competitive Supermini and 85cc (12-13) classes. Romero won both classes at the first in a series of CMC-sanetioned arenacross events at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem. Romero wasn't the only rider (0 leave his mark at the series' opener, as Kyle Reader, Andrew Nessell, Mitch Rask and Mitch Schlottman" were also double-class winners inside the Forster livestock Pavilion. Schlonmann was one of a contingent of outof-staters on hand; the Honda-mounted rider from Olympia, Washington, won three of the (our motos he contested in two classes, the 125cc and 250cc Junior events. Schlottmann beat fellow Washingtonian Andy Roberts in a mota-two shootout in the 125cc class, and then beat local Kawasaki rider Robby McCabe to win the overall in the 250cc class. Rask and lone Pro rider Anthony Cerruti had some good battles in the combined 250cc Pro/Intermediate and FourStroke classes, which ran combined. Cerruti, a top rider in the Western Four-Stroke National Series, grabbed the lead at the start of moto one but couldn't hold off the challenges from Rask, one of two Four-Stroke-c1ass participants. While Cerruti stayed close to Rask (after Rask took the lead early in the moto), unfamiliarity with the borrowed Suzuki RM he was riding led to his second-place finish. One of the Northwest's top Intermediate riders, Erik Meusling, forged through the pack to trail Rask and Cerruti and picked up a win in his class. Moto two was a much closer confrontation, as it took Hondamounted Rask most of the moto to overtake Cerruti in order to cake the lead; Rask led only the final two laps of the nine-lap race and capped off his I-I sweep to card the overall Four-5trokeclass win, ahead of Cerruti (the Pro-class winner). Husqvarna rider Allen Yother (the second-place finisher in the Four-Stroke class), and Meusling, who dropped from third to fifth in the late stages, but won the Intermediate portion regardless. Romero's turn to shine came first in the competitive Supennini class, where he squared off against local riders lYIer Aldrich and R.J. Leach in both motos. Romero had answers for both riders' challenges and carded his first of two overall wins with 1-1 placings. Leach netted second to Romero in moto two (after a fourth-place finish in moto one) to trail in the overall column. Washington's Neal Burres' 3-3 finishes bettered those of Aldrich (2-4) and Neal's brother Adam Burres (6-5) to finish third overall. RESULTS P/W (0-6): I. Ryan Martin (Cob); 2.
