OrEgon State Motocross Championship SEries Round 9: Forster Livestock Pavilion Hockema's Hat Trick! By CLAY LIGHT SALEM, OR, OCT. 29 Y amaha-mounted Cody Hockema has had things his way throughout the majority of the Oregon State Motocross Championship Series rounds, and at the penultimate round, the former minicycle speedster continued to steamroll the competition at Forster Livestock Pavilion, also commonly known as Salem Arenacross. Hockema posted the lone three-class win tally on the day after dominating the 125cc, 250<:c and Before The Hill junior classes. There were also several other top KTM-mounted Wya" Fowler (433) won the 65cc (9-11) class at round nine of the Oregon State Motocross Championship Series. performers on hand, including Medford's William See, who, like Hockema, has been a dominant performer throughout the series. See's unbeaten streak, though, came to an end, as after winning the 85cc (12-13) class, See had problems in both Supermini-class motas and ended the day with 2-3 placings to trail local rider Steele Angle-Davidson and Drew Mitchell in the overall results. Hockema's first overall win of the day came in the opening sets of motos, the combined Before The Hill j~niorllntermediate classes. Hockema had stiff competition from one of Oregon's top Intermediate riders, Mitch Rask, and the moto concluded in favor of Rask, who narrowly edged Hockema. Both riders, though, were class winners. jeremiah Sparks, the second-place rider in the junior class, rounded out the top three. Moto two was again a Rask/Hockema swapfest. In the end, the race favored Rask, the Intermediate-class winner, while Hockema placed second, but that was good for the overall junior-class win, his I-I class tally placing him ahead of Sparks (2-2) and Husqvarna-mounted Allen Yother (3-4). Rask rallied to the head of the field in the first combined 125cc Pro/Intermediate and 250<:c junior moto and did a crediLabIe job of staying there until mechanical problems PHOroS BY ClAY LIGHT dropped ~im back several positions. Hockema was also included in the field of riders and assumed t~e lead w~en Rask dropped back. Hockema stayed there to the finish to lead Honda rider Robert Wullbrandt, Kawasaki jockey Nathan Teel, Bradley Hillman and Derek Foulk across the line. Hillman, who made the jump from the 85cc class to the I25cc and 250<:c classes this season, assumed command in moto two, but the upand-coming rider could only maintain the position for two laps before Hockema took command of the race, and he wouldn't be headed from that point on, capping off a I-I sweep of the 250<:c junior class after finishing ahead of Hillman, the second-place 250<:c Junior, and Rask, the 125cc Intermediate-class moto winner. Wullbrandt kept close tabs on Rask and went 1-2 in the Intermediate class to win ovenIl. Wyatt Fowler ruled the 65cc classes on the day, although his fellow KTM rider AJyas Wardius did all he could to put an end to Fowler's domination. Each time out, Fowler slammed the door shut on Wardius' attempts to post overall the 65cc (9-1 I) and 65cc Open-class wins.
