with one lucky Vet X competitor winning a new motorcycle. Along with a new dirt start, the 1-5 track was prepped with a new sand section that had been built the night before, with the rest of the track being a fast, flowing circuit. Wayne Ashby returned from the break showing no loss of speed in the 28-35 Novice class. Ashby put in a fast ride in the very competitive Novice class. In the first moto, AcerbislAlloylUtopia-backed rider john Nelson charged into the lead from the start, with Ashby chasing him from the beginning. Nelson started to pull away, but on lap four Ashby charged, and on lap fIVe he was pushing Nelson - who answered by putting in the fastest lap of the moto, holding off Ashby for the last two laps to take the win. Ashby was second, and Gordon Phillips came from a seventh-place start to take the third. In moto two, Ashby charged into big early lead, while Nelson was back in 10th. Nelson put on a very impressive run to the front of the pack but was unable to catch Ashby, who easily took the moto win, as well as the overall. Nelson and Phillips placed second and third, respectively, in the moto and overall. Robert McFadden took charge in the 36-42 Beginner class, taking his first Vet X overall win. In moto one, Zeal Racing-backed Frank Darr started second but took the lead on lap three and held it for the win. Clarence Henderson followed Darr from beginning to the checkered nag to take second. Mcfadden worked his way from seventh up to third to take the last podium spot. John Ammons was the man to beat in the second moto. Ammons was second, behind Henderson, on the start, but he took the lead on lap two. joe Hernandez and McFadden were trying to catch the leader. McFadden moved into second on the second lap, but Hernandez put the pressure on, finally taking over second. However, the overall win went to McFadden with his consistent 3-3 finishes, second went to Hernandez with his 5-2 finishes, and third overall was Frank Darr with his 1-6 results. be peart of a motorcycling legend Todd Mitchell put in a very fast and impressive ride in the 28 Pro class. Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship Round J 3: Spare Ports Hare Scrambles Leivan Fashions Spare Parts into IOOth Win By FRANK LEIVAN EUGENE, MO, SEPT. 18 \ A /hUe SCRlYamaha rider Steve Leivan goes after his 13th V Y Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship overall title, he hit a milestone at round 13 of the series, promoted by the Spare Parts Motorcycle Club. On a day when many of his friends and family were present, the 34-year-old Leivan put together another of his last-lap charges to win his 100th MHSC race.
