PHOTO BY CLAY LIGHT Oregon State Motocross Championship Series Round I: Albany Motorsports Park See See Ride 'er! By CLAY LIGHT ALBANY, OR, SEPT, 3 S outhern Oregon speedster William See socked it to 'em at the opening round of the Oregon State Motocross Championship Series, held at Albany Motorsports Park. The Suzukimounted See scored overall 85cc (12-13) and Supermini-elass wins on the day, in what was a four-for-four moto sweep by the rider from Medford. See started off by winning the competitive Supermini class. He darted out in front of the field at the unleashing of moto one and then amassed a large lead to secure his first moto win of the day. Honda rider Rhett Johnson was also Impressive; after not having competed for well over a year due to injury. Johnson stayed right in the thick of things and placed second to See but ahead of Anthony Romero. Moto two was much the same. See easily won the moto to cap of( a 1·1 sweep, while Johnson again finished second, which was good for second overall. Romero (3-3), R.J. Oleman (5-4) and Shawn Dahlman (6-5) completed the top five. Southern Oregon riders also ruled in several other classes, including the day's largest class, the 125cc Junior class. Former minicycle speedster Bradley Hillman has recently stepped up to the bigger-bike classes, and he looked right at home in both motos. Hillman, riding a Honda, won the forst moto and placed second to Cody Hockema in the second moto to earn the overall win. While Hockema won the second contest, his ninth-place finish in moto one dropped the normally dominant Yamaha rider to fourth overall, behind Hillman (1-2), Nathan Teel (2-3) and Grant Hays (3-5). Erik Meusling has been on a roll lately in the Intermediate classes, but that roll went flat on this day, as the Suzuki rider had his share of problems in several motos. Meusling, a (ourclass contestant, had his best results in the 250cc Intermediate and Before The Hill classes, winning both motos in each. That, though, was about the best it got for Meusling; while out front in both Four-Stroke-c1ass motos, after spectacular battles with 250cc Pro rider Mike Horban, Meusling developed engine failure in moto one and then got his rear wheel entangted in banners in moto two. Tyler Fick was the lone Pro rider in a field of I 25cc Intermediates, and he had some good results. Fick and Mitch Rask's second-moto battle was among the day's best. The two raced wheel to wheel throughout the moto, ALIANY MOTORSPORTS PARK ALaANY, OUGON RESULn: SlmMBER 2, 2005 (ROUND 1) _0 P/W (0·6): I. Jack Fowler (Cob): 2. Chase Grimes (Hus); 3. By JAMEY BLUNT PASO ROBLES, CA, SEPT. 4 very year. over Labor Day, the Paso Robles Fairgrounds hosts the Mid-State Rally. Entertainment ran the gamut from Reba Mcintyre's vocal stylings to Eddie Mulder's hosting of the shorttrack races on Sunday evening. Some 177 racers contested the night's program of 24 heat races. As the front-straight bleachers filled to capacity, the night's program began at 6 p.m. The Brown's Cycles/Maxxis Tires 250cc Open class was comprised of 17 riders, each fighting for one of eight spots in the A main. From the moment she entered the track, 14-year-old Lauren Wallace was the crowd's favorite. Launching from the pole position, Wallace didn't disappoint, as she shot to the front. Michael Avila was away in second, with Garrett Stout third and Joe Meyer fourth. Two laps in, Meyer had displaced Stout for third, while Wallace was getting away at the front. The third lap would see Andy Wood take a soil test between turns one and two. Try as he might, Avila couldn't match Wallace's pace, and she went on to her victory. Avila was alone in second. Meyer edged out Stout for third. The next time Wallace entered the track, the crowd went wild! The A&A Racing/Motion Pro Open Amateur A main would pit her against stiffer competition. Twenty-four riders fought through three heat races for a chance in the A main. The question was, could Wallace come through on her smaller 2S0cc machine? Wallace didn't think she was at any disadvantage, though, as she nailed the start to lead the field. Mark Biscardi ran second, with Marshall Lapp third. Starting the second lap, Joe Meyer went down in turn two, which left the front three unchallenged to the finish. Lap four would see Wallace turn her fastest lap of the night at 10:42/ I00 seconds - the second-fastest lap turned all evening. E 58 oaOBER 5,2005 • CYCLE NEWS Everyone would see Wallace again in the Digger Helm Pro 600cc main, but this time she had to come through a semi, and she was starting from the third row. Tommy Carriger nailed the start of this 20-lap feature from the outside of the front row, but less than a lap in, Rodney Spencer Jr. took the lead away. Alex Wood, on the Ron Wood Yamaha, ran third. with Jeremy Chisum fourth. Exiting tum two on lap two, Mike Rush moved up to fourth at the same spot Paul Herman would crash out one lap later. Five laps in, Rush pushed past Wood for third, while back in the field, Rodney Spencer Sr. and Don Howard were on the move toward the front. At the halfway point, Spencer Jr. led, with Rush second and Spencer Sr. third. Wallace was away in 10th but was consistently making her way forward; she would finish sixth. With five laps remaining. Rush made a mistake exiting tum four. and Spencer Sr. got by. Dad tried to catch his son. but to no avail. as Junior had learned his lessons well. Rush, looking impressive, held third. Wood was fourth and Howard fifth. But it was Wallace who still received the biggest cheers and, after the races. had a line of autograph seekers waiting for he, in the pits. eN PASO ROBLES FAI~G~OUND5 PASO ROBLES, CALlFO~NIA RE5ULTS: SEPTEMBE~ 4, 2005 (ROUND 5) YTH 50: I.
