left the rest of the field to sort itself out. Leichner pushed hard to stay with Norton, and his persistence paid off when Norton took a trip to the dirt on the last lap. Leichner finished in the lead in the mixed moto, but Norton wasn't too far behind and claimed second in class. When the gate dropped for moto (WO, Norton again showed fierce determination as he absconded with the holeshot. As Cheek fought back and forth with Leichner, they were able to pull clear of Ferguson and Stanley, but they were never .t threat to the leader, who was by now way out front. Norton took the moto. and with it the overall v;etory. Things were much the same in the Four-Stroke class, as Nonon took charge early on, but there was a battle brewing behind him between the Honda-mounted Leichner and Novice sensation Ty Vernon, aboard his mighty KTM big-bore. Norton took moto one, ahead of the ·stylish Vernon, Leichner. and relative newcomer Daniel Williams, aboard his Yamaha. Moto two got off to a quick SUrt. Vernon had the edge going into the first turn but lost it to Norton in the second. As the (our riders traded positions for the first lap. Norton once again took charge and began motoring away, leaving Vernon and Leichner to sort things out betwixt themselves. As the white flag flew, Norton maintained his poise and his control of the moto, just as fireworks began erupting between Vernon and Leichner. After banging bars in a couple of comers and trading a couple or look-backs, Leichner finalized the deal by using a textbook block-pass in a comer that sent Vernon reeling - into a fence. Norton took the win, ahead of Leichner, Vernon and the exhausted Williams. "I've been riding my road bike a lot," Norton commented, "and I can tell a big difference with it and my endurance. This track is fun, and the ruts were awesome, and all these guys are good to race with. Hopefully by Branson I'll have my speed up some more and l'Uleave there with some good results." ~ ~ @YAMAHA $SUZUKI Kavvasaki WHusqvarna HONDA RESULTS so BEG, I. McKane L _ (Hon). 511 (4-4), I.
