The Broome-Tioga Sports Center and Hurd
I Motorsports hosted round lOaf the AMA
Chevy Trucks U. S. Motocross Championship
Series on August 21 . As is traditional with most
tracks on the AMA Pro circuit, two days of
Amateur races were held prior to the National.
More than 800 of the most talented Amateur
riden; on the East Coast came out to race the
technical Broome-Tioga course. Mother
Nature cooperated this year and provided two
beautiful summer days for the event.
Suzuki offered contingency for the amateur
event, and that attracted Pro riders such as
jason Lawrence and veteran Barry Carsten to
race the event prior to their qualifying for the
National and earn some extra cash to boot.
Lawrence topped both the 12Scc and 2SOcc A
classes with perfect I-I finishes. Carsten
topped the Over 2S and Over 30 A classes
with I-I tallies and finished third overall in the
2SOcc A class with a 6-2 tally.
Another local veteran, Gaylon Dickson, led
the start of the opening Over 25 A mota, with
Pat Banon, Carsten and Sean Skulnik in tow.
Skutnik (the son of the former owner and
promoter of Broome-Tioga, jack Skutnik). who
now resides in Wilmington, North Carolina,
was in town to visit family and friends and get
in a little seat time on his former home track.
Dickson continued to hold the point after
exiting the technical front rhythm section.
Carsten made the pass on Barton in rhythm
section, taking second. Skutnik held fourth, and
Rob Stilwell rounded out the top five. Dickson
did his best to hold off Carsten but finally
relinquished the lead with a lap and a half to
go. Dickson settled for second. Barton was
alone in third, and Dag Boyesen moved to
fourth, relegating Skumik to fifth. Carsten got
the win, followed by Dickson, Barton, Boyesen
and Skumik.
Barton and Dickson shared the opening
holeshot of the final Over 2S A mota, trailed
by Carsten, Wesley Parker and jeremy Tiffany.
Barton took the point in the front rhythm
section, and Carsten pulled in behind, just
ahead of Dickson. Parker held fourth, and Mike
Giulian was fifth. Carsten slowly closed the gap
on Barton and made the pass for the lead with
a lap to go. Carsten got the win, with Barton,
Dickson, Boyesen and Kurt McMillen trailing.
Carsten topped the Over 25 A podium with
a perfect I-I tally. Barton (3-2) took runnerup, and Dickson (2-3) closed out the podium.
Jason Landers and Michael Adams led the
start of the first Over 25 B mota. Landers held
the poin~ but Steve Sheckler relegated Adams to
third. Rob Novak and Chris Snow rounded out
the top fIVe. Landers got the win, followed by
Adams, Eric Frable, Novak and Richard jacobs.

Round 6: Hallett Motor Racing Circuit

D
ramatic finishes seem to be the norm at CMRA Endurance
races these days. At the latest event, round six of the
Shogun Motorsports CMRA Endurance Series, held at Hallett
Motor Racing Circuit, Northwest Honda Racing passed DesertRats.net on the final lap to win in spectacular fashion over a 39team field.
Just one hour earlier, Northwest Honda Racing had been as
much as one lap down and running in third position. However, an
inspired ride by the youngest member of the team, Logan Young.
brought the Houston-based team back to the front, ahead of the
solid-riding Desert-Rats.net crew on their Yamaha YZF-R I.
To add to the suspense, nearly half of the six-hour event was
conducted in a driving rain, and at one point was nearly called
because of lightning.
The Hallett race started like every other round held so far
this year: with Young grabbing the lead from the start on the
Northwest Honda Racing CBR IOOORR. And just like nearly eve')'
other round held this year, Shannon Ball, this time on the Team
Ridesmart Suzuki GSX-R7S0, worked his way through traffic to

and Bill Hopkins in tow. Matt
Reischer moved into the lead on
lap three and took the win,
followed by Landers, Novak, John
Spotts and Frable. Landers (1-2)
topped the podium, Novak (4-3)
took second, and Frable (3-S) was
third.
