MRAN Desert Series Round 3: Wild Bunch Motorcycle Club Toke No Prisoners Hare Scrambles Braun Takes No Prisoners By MIKE (OUINS PRIMM, NV, MAR, 12-13 D ound three of the MRAN Desert Series r\.headed to the Nevada state line town of Primm, Nevada. After a week of rain, the Wild Bunch Motorcycle Club kicked round three off with near-perfect conditions on a 31-mile course that consisted of fast buggy trails. fast sand washes, fast dirt roads, and a challenging single-track through the mountains. Experts and Amateurs had to battle the course for three loops, and the Novices did two loops. When the start banner dropped. the first wave of 150 competitors headed to the chute that directed them out on a 5-mile run to the point of the mountain where the riders picked up the single-track trail. Kirk Stephensen jumped out to the early lead on the Kenda Tires/Dollar LLC/Wagonwheelinc.com-backed K.X500, with Clint Braun hot on his tail on the Beam Designs/Simpson yz 4S0F. Stephensen led the first loop, with Braun battling the fast speeds of Stephensen's KXSOO. In the Amateu, class, several riders made a bid for the holeshot, but Mike Collins slipped underneath and held the lead heading into the desert. After the first loop. Stephensen left the pits first, but the consistent pressure by Braun caused Stephensen to make a mistake. Braun made the pass and was now in full control of the race. stretching out a solid lead by race's end. Braun captured first overall and first Open Expert, with Stephensen second. Jared Buoy, aboard the Pro Cycle Kawasaki, finished third. Zach Gosnell piloted his Yamaha to fourth overall, and Scott Wilson finished fifth, giving all top five spots to the Open class. The big news that came out of the Wild Bunch Me's Take No Prisoners Hare Scrambles was regarding Donald Toti. After a three-year leave of absence to pursue supermoto racing and mountain biking, Toti, an Over 40 Amateur, finished 18th overall and first Amateur, and he beat the Over 40 CYCLE NEWS • MAY 18, 2005 59
