ore than 330 riders (representing six states)
were on hand at TMT Motocross Park for
round twO of the third annual Southern All-Stars
Motocross Tour (a.k.a. the "SAS Series''). Weather and track conditions were excellent.
The event did double-duty as the facility's
annual Dealership Showdown. in which riders
can choose to represent a specific dealership. At
the end of the day, the dealership with the best
M
on-track performance gets to have its name
displayed on a large banner over one of the big
jumps for one year. Suzuki/Yamaha of Dalton,
was the winner, thanks to team riders
such as Matt Bell, who swept the 85cc (9-13),
85cc (12.13) and Supermini divisions.
Riding for Sarge's Cycles, Judson Wisdom
Georgia,
turned in one of the day's top performances.
never missing a beat en route to perfect scores
in the 65cc (7-9) and 6Scc Modified divisions,
as well as the B5cc (7-1 I) contest.
Jim's Motorcycle Sales-backed Jon Boruff
wrestled briefly with runner-up Kris Swaney in
both the 125 and 2SOcc A divisions, but Boruff
came away with the mota win every time.
Boruff also won the Over 25 division.
Alix Freeman. who won last year's SAS
Series championship in the B5cc (12-13)
division, notched a perfect score ahead of 36
competitors in this day's 125cc C contest. Levi
Long was the runner·up via his 2-3 talty, over
Blake Morrow's 3-4 score. Top contender
Ryan Anderson ran into trouble in mota one
and carded a I S-2 tally. netting seventh overall.
Ben Thomas nabbed the holeshot in and
won the opening 2s0cc C moto. During the
attempted start of the second mota, Thomas
showed the way again, but the mota was
immediately red-flagged. On the restart,
Thomas was slow out of the gate (apparently,
Thomas had programmed only two holeshots
into his Honda's computer for the day), and he
Experts by six places - earning himself a free
pass to the Expert division at the next race.
