250cc Novice class filled the starting gate with 26 riders. Colter
Dimick, riding a Honda, got the holeshot in moto one, with Chad
Fraher, also on a Honda, close behind coming out of the turn.
Shaun Haase went down in the first corner; he remounted and,
after catching "a lot of roost," he finished midpack. Dimick led the
race all the way. Joseph Motherway, contesting his first race, finished second after charging hard after Dimick.
When the gate dropped for the second moto, Dimick again
claimed the holeshot, with Fraher close behind. Motherway got
a sixth-place start but worked his way up to second place and
was knocking on Dimick's door; however, he knocked a little
too hard, going down in a corner, which left him in fourth place.
A heated battle took place between Haase and Fraher; Haase
shut the door on Fraher to take over second place. When the
checkered flag flew, it was Dimick claiming his first overall win
of the season, with Haase in second place. Motherway was
closing on Fraher but he ran out of real estate and finished
fourth, behind Fraher in third,
With short days and short motos. the riders in the 250cc Pro
class had to be on the gas. Adam Harvey had the quickest
reaction time and took the first-mota holes hot. followed by
Matt Karlson. The first lap around, Bobby Fitch moved out
from, followed by Karlson and then Harvey. Fitch and Karlson
gave the spectators the battle they wanted to see. Karlson took
the lead and pulled away. Harvey was second, Hunter Meyers
was third, Matt Whitmarsh was fourth, and Fitch finished fifth.
Fitch captured the second-mota holeshot, with Karlson hot
in pursuit. Fitch tried to check out but was passed by Karlson at
the finish-line jump. Karlson then broke away from the pack and
moved into his comfort zone, building a good 10-bikelength
lead. Meanwhile, Fitch had Kyle Calderini right on his tail, and
Harvey was showing both of them his front tire. After much
dicing and battling throughout the tight pack, the top trophy
went to Karlson, with Whitmarsh in second place, Calderini in
third, Harvey in fourth, and fifth overall going to Meyer.
Karlson also topped the 250cc Open class. Karlson summed
up his race day with a simple but eloquent: "Rock and roll!"
