At the flag, Wollin took third by a nip. Ben Rader took his Kawasaki to the lead in the 200cc class. A recovering Serge Figliuzzi was on the move, eventually catching Nick Smith and beating him to the line in a photo finish for second. Jesse janisch, on a 2S0cc Honda, and SOOcc Honda-mounted Smulders led the Open Pro final. Kawasaki Team Green rider Shawn Clark was giving Oettel pressure from all angles, trying to get past. Suzuki riders Jim Chester and defending champion Brian Stone were dose to the leaders, waging a war of their own. At the halfway point, the running order was the same, with Genel out in front of the freight train. On lap 10, Clark was putting the pressure on hard. and Oertel went down. Clark moved into the lead; Oettel remounted, but not before the battling Chester and Stone had shot past. While Clark was fast and smooth out front, Stone put the move on Chester and made the pass for second. When the checkered flag flew, the running order remained the same, with Clark first. With one lap to go, Carlson fell in turn three, Janisch got Wollin, and Smulders took the win, with Rosine second. In the Dash For Cash, janisch, Smulders and Carlson were three wide for the first few laps, but on the lap that counted, Smulders took his fourth victory of the day and was crowned the "King of 'Kosh." On the third lap of four, Katin went down hard, handing the lead to Clark, who put in some great lap times, jumping a triple on every lap that the others were only attempting occasionally. Clark went on to take the win, earning himself some birthday money! Weimer finished second, with Chester third. After the race, with a big smile on his face, Clark simply said, 'Thank you, Springfield!" In the 250cc main, Honda rider Derek Leist put his 450 out front, with a parade of fast riders in tow. On the third lap, Katin bumped his way past for the lead. Leist held on tight but could not hold 0(( the charge of Clark, who moved into second on the third lap and then set 0(( after Katin. Clark worked his way around on the 10th lap, taking the win and completing his sweep of the event. Katin finished second. Leist put on the most impressive ride, scoring a third-place finish. "This is a great weekend," said a very happy Clark. "My birthday is Sunday, and to take these wins makes it that much better. We are going to drive home over night so I can make it to church." In the 250cc class, Roy Nafzger, on the Freeport Kawasaki, took the early lead, with four-stroke Yamaha-mounted Mark Schmidt closing. Human Race Team's Andy Fenwick charged through the pack to mount a battle for third with Cody Reifsnider. Nafzger got the nod. Lexi Hoffmann led the first half of the BScc race. Then Zack Rosine slid to the lead. Jonathan Bradley moved to third, with Sabrina Woltreng fourth. Hoffmann tried to recapture the lead but had to settle for second. Stoppleworth used the high line, Nafzger was in the middle, and Terry Vestal used the pole in a three-way battle in the Over 40 class. Stoppleworth was making up ground, but at the flag, Vestal took the victory. Tyler Smulders smoked the field in the 505cc race on his 500cc two-stroke Honda. Dixie MX Halliburton Drills Dixie By HUGH GATLIN OZARK, Al, FEB. 5 ope Hull, Alabama's Tom Halliburton came to Dixie MX's season opener in search of an age-group win. and he hit pay dirt with the overall victory in the combined Over 3010ver 40 contest. The Adams Motorsports-assisted rider piloted his RM250 to wins in both motos. Chuck Branson doubled his day-old 200S CRF4S0 past Carl Drummond on lap one of the first Over 30/0ver 40 moto. Halliburton also went past Drummond's YZ450 early on, and then railed a lBO-degree turn to get past Branson and post a IO-second win. Drummond picked up his pace and held 0(( a closing Don Bush for third. Pike Road, Alabama's Joe Wilson rounded out the top five. Halliburton rounded the first tum in last place in race two, whUe Branson made a break for the win. Halliburton made two passes on lap one but wasn't able to get around Drummond in a tight left for second place until the halfway point. Branson, riding fast and smooth, yielded to Halliburton at the stlrt of the final lap. Bush caught Drummond in the final turn; the pair made contact, and Bush squeezed out third by half a wheel. Carson Chumley and Clayton Beasock swapped wins in the eight-rider combined Pee Wee class. Beasock, hampered by a roughrunning Husky, led moto one before being passed by Chumley. Even with a raspy engine, Beasock pulled a big holeshot, over Chumley'S KTM, in moto two. The duo encountered lapped traffic on lap three. Chumley closed in, but it wasn't enough; Beasock claimed a two-second win. yz 12S-mounted jody Cook ruled the 12Scc BIC contest with double moto wins. Jeremy Richard followed him in both times. Dixie newcomer Justin Helfinstine pushed his yz 125 H past Ed Antonio for third, first C rider, with just three turns to go in moto one. In moto two, Helfinstine crashed heavily over a triple and scored a DNF. The spill put Antonio back in the driver's seat for the overall C win; his 2-2 tally topped Shane Cox's 4~ I score. Mike Branson made several passes in the 65cc Beginner class to secure the win. In race one, he gated fourth and finished a close second to fellow Suzuki rider Dustin Jones. Nick Brockman brought his to< in third. Branson overcame Jones' holeshot stan in race two and built a small cushion that he would keep to the finish. Shaun Worley (5-3) won a race-long battle for third over three riders, but Brockman (3-4) claimed third overall. Justin Tyre was the only rider to line up on the inside of the doghouse in the first 125cc D/2S0cc D mota. He grabbed the holeshot on his KX 125 and rode to a second-place finish, behind Yamaha pilot Dylan Lofty. Shane Still was third on his CR. Moto two saw Mike Rivers pull a strong holeshot over Tyre, Lofty, Still and Kelly Brinkman. Lofty moved to second and then put an outside pass on Rivers for the win.
