tanooga Choo-Choo was almost filled to its 400 person maximum capacity as top winners of the second annual Southern All-Stars Tour gathered in celebration of their season's achievements. AMA sports manager Steve Carnegie was on hand to present more than $15,000 in prizes, along with personalized championship-sized trophies, to each series finalist following the "fit for royalty" dinner buffet. Many surprises and bonuses were awarded throughout the evening's festivities, which included random drawings for pressure washers, helmets and cash prizes. Each class champion was awarded a personalized jacket, and aU honorees left loaded with various items, including complete sets of gear, supplies, gift certificates, accessories, and the traditional roll of duct tape. Sixteen dedicated participants logged hundreds of miles and weathered many tough battles to complete the season with perfect attendance, having made to all 18 rounds. Several others were forced to forfeit only a couple of races due to mechanical problems andlor minor injuries but still successfully finished the season to be honored among the top-five field of champions. The Roberts were honored by their riders and families with an expenses-paid trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, in appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Greg and Vickie received a standing ovation as they accepted their award. Guests enjoyed the after-dinner party following the awards ceremony, and the crowd danced to music until late in the evening. The series was packed full of special events. Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky hosted the 18-round series, which kicked off in February at Diamondback MX in Resaca, Georgia, with The Roger DeCoster Kids Benefit Race. Three Loretta Lynn's area qualifiers were included in the series, which made it convenient for riders wishing to pursue their qualifying goals and still maintain series points. Daniel Boone MX in London, Kentucky, along with Smoky Mountain MX in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and Diamondback each held Loretta Lynn's qualifying events. TMT MX Park in Monteagle, Tennessee, hosted four rounds of the tour, including the Dealership Showdown and the three-day "TNT @ TMT Fourth of July" celebration. Sam Gammon, along with Victory Sports and the Thor/United States Mega Series, joined the Southern All-Stars for six rounds of the series, which included the venues Smoky Mountain MX, Daniel Boone MX, I-B I MX in Greenville, Tennessee, and Lazy River MX Ranch in Chatsworth, Georgia. Although it wasn't part of the series, Lazy River also hosted the Southeast Amateur Youth Regional Loretta Lynn's qualifier. The final round of the Southern All-Stars Tour was also completed at Lazy River with the Suzuki Battle of the States. The 2005 Southern Ali-Stars Tour schedule will soon be posted at www.sasmx.com. The area had received record amount of rainfall, and the TORO track showed it. The Fort Worth Trailblazers cut a very fun, technically challenging trail, only to have to reroute some of the more impassable sections on Saturday and again on Sunday. The Pros, in the first race of the day, ran on a track that only had a couple of sections of the original layout redirected. Winter Series Round I: Bremen Race Park Hinckley, Jernigan Gone Againl By BILLY ATKINSON old weather is not good for the motocross business, right? Wrong! A good showing of riders made the trip out to Bremen MX despite the frost on the ground, knOWing things would warm up by race time. The track, built to host the Four-Stroke NationaJ, is prepped proper, so let's get a coffee and a seat, because the first class is at the gate! The first class was the 2S0cc A class, which had a good shOWing at the gate. Dash Lyle took off, and no one could stop him; Lyle rode his RHS Honda to two moto wins. Benjamin Hamilton, also on a Honda, earned the second podium position. Returning from an injury~ induced absence, Kyle Odom used his new Honda to score third overall. Brae Hinckley dominated the 2S0cc B class on his fast Suzuki, scoring two wins. Chris Enck of Enck's Cycle put down his wrenches and used his new 450cc Yamaha to make it to the second podium pOSition. Honda rider Robert "Mad Dog" McGrew took the final podium spot with a good ride. The 12Scc C contest was all about Robby Winiarczyk and his LSD-tuned Freewheeling Honda, taking two moto wins going away. Jeremy Pendley, on his Yamaha of Doraville YZ, used a last-moto ralry to secure second overall; this was Pendley's first race after moving to the C class, and things seems to be going well. Richie Gibson of Gibson Racing used his Kawasaki to earn the last podium spot with a good effort. D.C. Thomason put his Yamaha at the top C Leivan's the Lone Ranger Front-Runner 46 and forced him into a mistake in the open stuff to take the lead. When the white flag came out, I had 10 seconds on him, and I put in a fast and error-free last lap to take the win by a minute." The Motorsports/MSR/Gaerne-sponsored Crouch finished second, with Ramsay in third and Joe McClellan rounding out the Pros. The fastest A rider of the day was GKS Racing's Cecil Parker, in the Over 30 A class. It was a very special victory for Parker. "I rode at Ranger last year for the first time after breaking my leg at a cross country event, and boy, did I feel like a spade," Parker recounted. '" knew I had a long way to go before I would be back to my level of racing again. I'm just very excited to have overalled this event one year later!" Brent Sellers was second on the start, with Parker right behind him. "When we came to the creek crossing," Parker said, "first and second went to either side of it, and I just went right down the middle! I got by them and led the rest of the way!" "I started haVing problems - first a front flat, then I lot my front fender," Sellers said. "I feel pretty good about hanging on to second. The track was really fun. I liked it a lot. It is definitely Track of the Year in my book!" Go to www.race-toro.org for more information on winter racing in Texas. BREMEN, GA, DEC. 5 Texas Offroad Racing Organization Round 3: Fort Worth Trailblazers twiSty and had some really rutted sections," said SCR Yamaha/Answer/Dunlop-backed Steve Leivan. "The little bike is easier to get through the tight stuff. I got the holeshot and led for a halfdozen turns before Lambert got by me. He made it two turns before he wadded himself up and I was in front again. I cruised through the first lap, in no real hurry to get away, but rather to check out the course and let the slickness go away. "[Caleb] Ramsey went by me on lap two like he was in a hurry to go somewhere," Leivan gas going into five. I caught back up to Crouch of the 125cc A podium with double mota wins. Honda rider Benjamin Hamilton finished in the runner-up spot with a good ride. Ryan Nolan put his H&H KTM on the podium with a good performance. Brent Jernigan made the trip from Tennessee with a trailer full of KTMs and won two classes. The 65cc (10-1 I) class was Jernigan's first win. Timothy Thorn, on another fast KTM, took second overall. Michael Keen used his orange machine to make it an all-KTM podium with a good ride. When the gate fell for the BScc (7-1 I) contest, Jernigan was gone again. Timothy Thorn put his head down in the last moto to secure second overall. Suzuki rider Jesse Madden prevented another all-orange podium by winning the last podium spot. Hinckley's second win was in the Unlimited Amateur division. Daniel Hitchcock used his still-fast two-stroke Honda to score second overall. Jeffrey Petit was on the gas, finishing the last moto with a hard push to gain the last podium spot. Gage Hartman and Pendley used their Yamahas to finish at the top of the Youth competition. Suzuki jockey Brett Barrow used the second mota to win the final podium Spot with a good effort. RESULTS 50 SHAFT: I. Bryston Ivey (Yam); 2. lane Sudduth (Yam); 3. leighton Ivey (Yam): -4.
