Racing Enterprises Motorsports Saturday Motocross Glen Helen Raceway Park Welsh, Pfaff Fast at REM Saturday Motocross Bv ROCKV HASH SAN BERNARDINO, CA, NOV. 20 C old winds blew in nasty-looking clouds that threatened rain all day long, but thankfully the precipitation held off and near-perfect track conditions prevailed for this week's Racing Enterprises Motorsports' Saturday Motocross. In the Over 3S Expert ranks, Dean Welsh piloted his Scott/Uni Filter-backed Honda CRF to an impressive two-mota sweep to earn the overall class victory for the day. Welsh ripped both holeshots and never looked back, eventually winning with a comfortable margin each time out. Welsh's No Fear/fToo Tech Racing Suspension teammate Bob Johnson garnered the runner-up slot via his solid 3-2 finishes, while Big Gun/Hinson-backed Paul Kelien (2-4) filled out the top three slots. Honda CRF4S0R-mounted Steve Pfaff was equally dominant in the Over 40 Expert class, as he stormed to two runaway moto wins to take the overall victory on the day. Pfaff was simply unstoppable as he led every lap of both motos on his way to perfection for the day. Behind him, the action was tight, as C.-r. Falk, Randy Skinner and Tim "Mad Dog" Murphy battled hard over the runner-up pOSition for most of the day. In the end, it was Falk's consistent 3-3 efforts that placed him in the second-place slot, while a 5-2 effort for Skinner garnered third on the day. A late miscue at the bottom of the downhill in the second moto dropped Murphy back a bit, but his 2-S tally was still good for fourth overall, while Jim Naegle (4-4) filled out the top five positions. LK Performance/Carrol's Auto Repairbacked Stan Griffin easily bested the 250cc Beginner ranks on his Honda CR2S0, with a perfect I-I tally shOWing on the scoreboard at the end of the day. Michael Kimmel (2-2) took second place, while Drew Lofquist (3-3) rounded out the top three. The action in the Over 50 Masters class has been intense as of late, and this week was no exception. In the end, it was Honda rider Lyle Sweeter putting up the magic I-I scores to take home the top honors for the day. REM numberone plate holder George Kohler took home second place with a 2-2 showing, while Yamaha YZ2S0-mounted Ken Ehlers (3-4) claimed third place. Pirelli's Dave Stephens put in a strong second moto and was rewarded for his efforts with fourth place on the day with his 6-3 effort, while Motocross Action's main man Jody Weisel filled out the top fIVe poSitions with his 5-6 rides. 36 JANUARY 19,2005 • CYCLE NEWS RESUtTS 65 BEG: I. Johnny Larson (91) absconds with the Vintage A haleshot, ahead of Fred Bennett (12), eventual overall winner Daug Chandler (49), Tammy Carriger (21) and Bryon Bergen (17), at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds. Barn Burner Winter Series Chowchilla Fairgrounds Chandler Charges at Chowchillal Bv KAREN GOULD CHOWCHILLA, CA, NOV. 20 th only four races left in the Chowchilla W;Barnburner Winter Series, the points races are heating up. This week's track was moist and smooth, as Diaz Motorsports continues their quest for perfect track prep. The air was a bit chillier as winter is approaching, but there's always plenty of hot chocolate and chili at the snack bar to warm up the spectators. It's always fun to see who will show up to ride this track. Last week, Justin and Jimmy Felice dodged each other around the track; the Ray Huff Memorial brought out some of the local big boys; and this week Doug Chandler showed up to ride with his son Jett. Racing got under way with the Open A event. Chris Canepa easily took this win, in front of Justin Felice and Jimmy McNeil. The Open Band C combined race was the next one on the track. Dennis Trentman was first to the checkers in the B class, and Dillen Allen was the first C rider across the line. Allen is new to flat track, but he brings with him experience from the motocross venues. Christian "The Weasel" Hickman, who has been on a roll lately, finished the 85cc B event first, with Justin Petz and Jett Chandler following. Jared Slate took the 65cc riders home, followed by Bronson Bauman and Mitch Anderson. Jourdan Boten won the 50cc Beginner event. Mark Biscardi, who is competing for points in the Old-Timers A class. scored another victory on this night, followed by Fred Bennett and Johnny Larson. Biscardi was on the track again for the Vet A event, and he gave Tommy Carriger a challenge, swapping the front spot with him throughout the first couple of laps. Carriger finished first, but Biscardi left him no room for error. The Vintage A lineup on this night included Doug Chandler, Carriger, Bennett, Bryan Bergan and Larson. Doug, aboard a Rod Lakesponsored, Richard Boten-tuned bike, won this one, but he had to work for it for the first couple of laps. Larson got the holeshot. Then Carriger led it into the second lap, but he fell between turns three and four. Bergen qUickly took the second pOSition. Carriger worked his way back into the third spot. Eric Kiser was first to the checkers in the Senior C event, followed by "Uncle Scott" Taylor. Steve Runnels and Jack Hayes followed. Once again, Briar Bauman and Michael Avila battled turn after turn in the 85cc Money race. Avila took home the first-place cash in this class this week, but Bauman was the victor in the 100cc Money event. Bauman finished the 85cc class in second, while Garrett Slate was second in the 100cc Money race. Slate came back to win the IOOcc Modified Youth class, followed by Mike Martin and Bronson Bauman. Bronson, who uses blocks to stand up on the line, is only 7 years old. The new series begins January 8,2005. RESULTS 50 BEG: I. Jourden Boten: 2. Br.mdon Dean. 50 STK C: I. Monte Valladao.
