Northwest Arenocross Amoteur Nationals Round 4: Exposition Arena See Came, See Saw, See Conquered By CLAY LIGHT SALEM, OR, NOV. 20 S outhern Oregon speedster William See walloped the competition during the Amateur portion of round four of Lee Collins' Northwest Arenacross Nationals, held at Exposition Arena at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. See was one of the scant few double-class winners on the day, picking up the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini-class wins on his Suzuki. Yamaha rider Nick Schmidt was another of a small handful of riders to earn two overall wins. Schmidt won the 125cc and Before The Hill Intermediate classes to join See, KTM-mounted R.J. Leach, the winner of the 65cc (0-8) and 6Scc Open classes, and 50cc dominator Caesar Stokes in the winners' circle. Honda rider Matt Wilson has been one of the top Intermediate riders in the state, but on this occasion, Wilson didn't fare as well as he normally does. Wilson tangled with Schmidt in the opening moto and, after picking himself off the ground, trailed Schmidt and Ricky Yorks at the finish. Wilson didn't start mota two, which Schmidt won. That altercation also knocked Wilson out of the 12Scc and Four-Stroke Intermediate classes, races he normally dominates. Schmidt scored dual mota wins in this class as well, leading fellow Washington State riders Zane Lovely and Yorks overall. See was smokin' -hot right out of the chute in the competitive Supermini class, despite facing competition from throughout the Northwest. Idaho's Houston Keane and Oregon's Colin Baker put pressure on See in both motos, but Baker, on his potent KTM, placed second to See overall. Keane couldn't get past Baker in mota two and fell to third overall, followed by Kody Clark (5-4) and Adam Henry (7-5). The rider from Medford was equally impressive in the 85cc Age Group contest, in which three classes ran adjoined. See bolted ahead of the field in both motos, and Baker and Keane were again the riders who stuck closest to him. Baker and Keane again traded finishes, with the outcome going in Baker's favor. See (I-I), Baker (3-2) and Keane (2-3) compieted the top three in the 8Scc (12-13) portion, while Clark, Marcus Janssen and Ryan Secondi were the top finishers in the 85cc (9-1 I) class. Kyle Reader was the lone 85cc (14-16) entrant and won overall. Leach has come on strong lately; since making the switch from Suzuki to KTM, the rider from Albany has been on a streak. Leach won both 65cc (0-8) motos, finishing ahead of Washington riders Darian Sanayei and Kaden Hurst. One of the many Washington riders on hand, Colton Gilfeather, was too much for most of the competition in the adjoined 65cc (9-1 I) class; Gilfeather trailed moto winner Alyas Wardius in moto one, but Wardius' poor start in mota two aided in Gilfeather's overall win. Ward ius could only muster a fourth-place finish in mota two, as he trailed Gilfeather, Chase Slayton and Nolan Beyer at mota's end and finished second overall. Keltin Boykin won the Husky Challenge half-time race, sponsored by Bill's Motorcycles Plus, ahead of Jack Fowler and the rest of the field.
