triple-sanctioned event. Edmondson went head to head with fellow SE&TRA member Russell Bobbitt, swapping low scores check for check, with Edmondson snagging the tie breakers for the win. Jason Chancey and multiple-time and newly crowned 2005 SERA Champion Stephen Reed and Michael Grizzle were all in the hunt, rounding out the top five fast guys ofthe day. It was originally reported that Bobbitt had won the overall, but upon further investigation of the backup books, it was discovered the scorecard had been incorrectly marked, and the backup books did reveal the correct score. Properly protested, the time was taken after the race to thoroughly investigate the error, and all were in agreement with the change. The course was approximately 70 true trail ground miles. To start the day, riders were pointed up the hill behind the clubhouse and into a good 12-mile warmup section. There was no doubt this was the famous Gobbler Getter, and the club would not disappoint with endless, gnarly, good 01' 'Barna thickets. Another I I-mile section brought riders into a field with lots of spectators and lots of slimy mire that busted the butts of those riders who weren't careful. As expected, there was a little "free time" to catch riders off guard. ("Free time" does not mean a reset and that one has plenty of time to chat with one's pit crew; those who fooled around here were late, with four miles of real woods between themselves and the next section. Tricky!) The next IO-mile section was littered along the way by stranded riders and bikes with empty tanks. Those riders must have really been on the main through those tight, barbanging sections. Some riders decided to cut their losses and call it a day at the gas stop, which was also the staging area; it was just too enticing to not go back out to another 37 miles of the Gobbler Getter experience. However, those who did muster the courage to go back out were treated to even better trails. One cannot say enough about what a great race the Gobbler Getter is every year. For the northern riders who need a challenge, come ride this race next year. The Perry Mountain Club thanked the Alabama Forestry Service for its cooperation and support, and, of course, the Reynolds family. Au", ' ...,........"C!' 1 ••• , CA • .......,... ...
