Vallerio crashed on Friday but won the class an Saturday and Sunday. Valle rio took command of t he 125cc Novice final on Saturday night and picked up the first of his two w ins. Sacramento's Steinke has for several years been one of the top SSec riders on t he West C o ast , b ut on t his weekend Vallerio proved that he's also a force to be reckoned with, by winning Sunday's 8Scc O pe n final, despite challenges fro m the Yamaha -mounted St e inke. Rie h l, who was impress ive all weekend , scored h is th ird consecutive podium finish in t he class . Tevin Tapia and Locks filled out the to p five. Sund ay's program was bolstered by the add ition o f several classes, including an 85cc ( 12-1 5) class . Ste inke , w ho made the sw itch from Kawasak i to Yamaha last year, imp rove d from his earlier 85c c O pen results by scoring a w in in th e 85cc ( 12- 15) class , be at ing one of the weekend 's top performers, Vallerio , after a hea d-to-head battle ; Steinke, VaJlerio and Riehl were the top three . (Riehl wa s also impressive all weekend, finishing in the to p three every time he competed.) Locks and Temecula, Ca liforn ia's Brett Hiner rou nded o ut the top five. One of the most pleas ing classes for the spectators was the SOc classes. Wash ington's "Mad Max" Harr is posted a pair of c overall wins, his final victory of the weekend com ing in Sund ay's SO (7-8) final, in which he beat Californian Kinser Endicott. cc Californ ian Kevin Hurt put the "hurt" on the co mpetition by picking up a pair of ove rall Intermed iate-class wins on Saturday. The Suzuk i-mou nted Cal ifornian w o n the 12Scc and 2S0cc Intermediate classes and then stormed Sunday 's eve nt , w inning the 125cc , 250cc Inte rme d iat e and 125 cc Schoo lbo y classes.
