Chowchilla Barnburner Series Chowchilla Fairgrounds Avila Victorious! By KAREN GOULD CHOWCHILLA, CA, NOV. 6 T his Saturday 's racing featu re d more than 100 riders co mpeting in the seventh race of th is I-t-race high-point series. As always. the cushion oval was met iculously groomed to run 27 events, including money rac es for the 2S0-and- Up Adults, the IODcc (9- 16) class and the 8Scc riders. Each of the money even ts featu re IOO-pe rcen t payback . Th is track provides the are na fo r some of th e clo sest racing co mp etition around. The battle on the track con tinues between Michael Avila and Briar Bauman. Enteri ng the first tum in the 85cc Money event, Bauman pulled a Chris Carr move to ge t past Avila. getting a whee l under him. but Avila would have none of it , turning the throttle to once again overtake Baum an. Switching the first spo t in the first tum three times, these boys put on a show, with Avila emerging victorious . Be hind them. Danielle Diaz and Tony Davila were competing fo r t he t hird spot. Davila wo rked hard to overtake Diaz and accomplished that goal with a dr ive out of the fourt h turn. beating her by abou t halfa w hee l across the line. Bauman and Avilawere at it again in the IDOcc Money event, riding wheel to wheel throug hout the race . Bauman attempted to put another sq ueeze move on Avila as they encounte red lapped riders , but he fell. givingAvila an easy win. Brad Spencer had his work cut out for him in the Vet Over 30 A race . Spencer uses every part of the track to pass on the outside, and he rod e his 500 around Chuck Monasmith , only to have Monasm ith get und e r h im . Spencer got by aga in , Monasm ith got under again - they swapped the first spot four times, but Spencer led the last two laps to the finish. Bronson Bauman took the win in the 6sc c A class, and he was back on the track for the 100cc C event. Just 7 years old. and using blocks to stand up, Bro nso n has beco me a fierce competitor in this class. Finishing the first lap in fifth, Bronson starting picking off the riders in front of him. Com ing out of tum two , he put a move on Diaz that surprised most of those watching. moving her out to get under. He finished this race in second spot, beh ind D.J. Sharkey. justin Petz left the start line at the front of the l Sncc pack and just kept going, taking this o ne from start to finish. Donnie Howard got the holeshot in the Open A event and stayed in front from pole to pole . Don nie 's son Nathan was also a winner, taking first in the 50cc Modified class. Diaz and Brandi Monasmith were first and second in the Powder Puff event , and Christine Ca ldeira too k the lead in the IDOcc Mom's race . At the back of the Moms pack, jo Ann Pet z jacobson got a foot stuck and bro ke her leg as she came out of the second turn. The other moms stopped the race to attend to their comrade. Tony Davila (192H) gets the drive out of the fourth tu rn on the lost lo p to toke thi rd in th e 8 Scc Money race, ahead of Danielle Diaz (38 6 V) in fou rth, at the seventh Cho w chilla Barnburner Series ro und.
