Former top WMA rider Tracy Fleming showed that she still can ride des pite dropping (rom majo r competition. as she t otally handled t he class in both motos to take t he overall w in on a I - I tally. A new addition to the race schedule was the 1 MX!TRE Challenge, The top Inte rmediates -5 and Pros were invited to participa te . and they lined up in single file, with the faster riders in the back. Vet Expert David Antillion lined up first, followed by 125cc Intermediates Brett Mountain and Brett Auerbac k, 25 0cc Inte rmed ia te C a me ron H e isse r, and 2 50cc Pro Don nie Durrer, At the start, Antillion took advantage of his front starting position and was pushed hard w hile leading the race for several laps. All five riders were close together, but Durre r picked them off one by one to take the w in, ahead of Heisser, Auerbach, Mountain and Antillion. At the sta rt of t he first com bined 250cc Pro / Intermed iate mo to, Intermedia te r ide r He isse r gra b bed the ho le shot o n his ne w CRF450R, followed by 250cc Pros Vince Rhoads and Durre r. Rhoads quickly moved past He isser and began to build up a lead. Durrer soon moved into seco nd and th en took o rr afte r Rhoads. Durre r finally made the pass for the lead, but before the mot o e nded he dropped out, handing the wi n t o Rhoa d s. He isse r w o n the Intermediate portion, followed by Bobby Langin. In mota two , Rhoads jum ped o ut to an ea rly lead, w ith He isse r in second. Afte r a midrace cras h left se ve ra l ride rs on t he gro und , t he fro nt -ru nne rs remained unchallen ge d , wit h Rhoads t aking t he mota wi n and th e overall 250cc Pro victory, whi le He isser and Langin finishing first and second, respe ctively, in the Inte rm ediate class. Some of th e best racing of the day to o k place in t he first 125cc Beginne r mo ta. Billy Ballard put his Kawasaki into the lead, followed by Michael Berg, Tyle r Ruiz and Der rick Crigler. Ballard took a samp le of the fine 1-5 MX dirt , handing the lead over to Berg. Ruiz had a great run at the uphill to pass Be rg for the lead, and Dillon Alexander mo ve d up to cha llenge the lead grou p. Ruiz fell down and cou ld not get his bike restarted, w hich handed the lead to Berg. However, once he got going, Alexande r passed Berg for the lead. Berg re turned the favor o n t he do w nhil l. At t he fi nish , it wa s Berg , Alexande r and Crigler. Mota tw o began with Jordan Gamer in the lead, t railed by Jess e Berg, Ballard, Alexander, Michael Be rg and Ruiz. Je sse and Ale xande r move d up fro nt and began a fight for the lead. Michael Be rg and Ruiz batt led for t hird and fourth until they came t oge ther and cras hed, w hich move d Ball ard int o third .
