Finnish sidecar racers Jari Hatonen (driver) and Jarmo Jalonen (passenger) used some of their holiday time in the USA to dominate the final raund of the AMA Western National Sidecar MX Series in Madera, California. Yamaha-mounted team pu lled away fo r good. Scott Beishuizen w as t he first SuperSeries ATY race r to be named Sportsman of the Year. This friendly rider with a passion for motocross is always w illing to jump in and help . Scott also won the SuperSeries ATV Ve t clas s cham pions hip th is season. The most improved riders of the year were 8S cc C riders Dav id Ho lland and Zachary Be nnett , who learned fro m their experiences and got faster each weekend . High-Po int winners were honored fo r their achievements by guest presenter and Over 3S Amateur Nation al Champio n Jo hn G rewe . Dillon Finley to pped th e Mini ranks as a fro ntrunner in the 65cc class and the champ of the 50cc Senior class . Fo r t he ninth co nsecu t ive year, larry Witm er took t he big-bike High-Po int title, winning the Ov er 40 and Over 45 classes alo ng the wa y. The 12Scc Pro class saw local hotsho t Tracy Johnson in the s po t light , as t he Honda rider swe pt both motos w it h se e mi ng ease. Using consistency, Tyler Kavaney to ok seco nd via 3-3 mota finishes, after a DN F w as hand ed to bot h Bryan Clevenger (w ho placed sec ond in th e first moto) and Nick Foiste r (w ho placed second in the second moto). Trevor Brooks (6 -5) t oo k th ird , a n d Chris Holum (8-4 ) finis hed an im pr e ss ive fourth. Rounding out th e top five was Chris Church (9-6). The 250c c Pro class was a real treat for the fans, as Four-St ro ke Natio nal competitor Mike Co rd er showed up "in d isguise ." Corder w as on the line w ith a si mp le - lo o king Honda, a of ride rs o n hand . In addition to class awards , DECEMBER 1,2004 • CYC LE N EWS 40th Anniversary hastily applied number, and his name nowhere t o be se e n. Corder soon showed w ho w as piloting the num ber-ni ne bike as he blasted out into the lead in t he first mota, s h o w in g incred ible speed. Foiste r, Mark Bunker and Bob Melloy all tried thei r best to catch Co rder, to no avail. Corder to o k the mota w in, followed by Foister, Bunker, Melloy and Anthony Ce rruti. In the s e co nd mota, Cord er o nce again g r abb ed th e hole s hot . Th e se cond m oto seemed to be a repeat of the first, as Foister, Bunker and Me lloy w e r e a ll Io llo wtng in Corder' s roost - bu t thi s time , 125cc-c1ass w inner Johnson en te red the scen e, battling hard to catch that el us ive number-nine mac hine. Once aga in , Corder had th e moto u nder co ntro l. and though he wasn't far ahead of the pack, he see med to have things dialed. Corder t o o k th e se co nd- m o t a win and t he o ve rall victo ry. Finishing behind Corder in th e second moto were Fo iste r, Bunker, John son and Melloy.
