GFI Racing Fa ll Series S outh Round 4 : Glen Helen Raceway Park Minor Shows Some Maior Speed By GREG ROBERTSON SAN BERNARDINO, CA, OCT. 10 A board his john Burr Cycles-backed Yamaha YZ4S 0F, 16-ye ar- old jared Brown set a blisteri ng pace on the National Track at Glen Helen Raceway Park to ace the 2S0cc Interm e diate class during round four of the GFI Racing FallSeries South. Minor made his intensions clear as he powered his way into the opening-mota lead, w it h Tyler Kalisiak and jo sh Brown close behind . Kalisiak kept tabs on Minor, but Minor ke pt his head down and charged for the en tire moto to earn the w in. Brown finished a dose third, ahead of Matthew Tedder Jr.. Brys Kuntz and Craig Monty. Mota two saw Minor lead the pack down Glen Helen's long start straight . with Kalisiak second. followed by Brown and Kuntz. Brow n worke d his way around Kalisiak and se t out after Minur o- ~h o already held a five- se co nd advantage. Brow n chipped away at Minor 's lead, and by the pen ultimate lap he had closed to his back fender. Minor managed to dig a litt le deeper and kept Brown at bay on the final circuit for a sweep of the field. Brown 's 3-2 finishes bested Kalisiak's 2-3 rides for second ov e ra ll, wi t h Kuntz (5- 4) and Tedder (4-6) rounding out the top five. j ust in Eide got the ho les hot in the first 125cc Pro mota but soon had his hands full wi t h Pat Mc Mullen , Mic he l Sandoval and Dennis Ewing. These four put on one of the be st races of the day, as they were all over each oth er for the entire mot a, with Sandoval prevailing in the end . McMullen finished a dose seco nd, over Ewing and Eide. Ewing won the drag race to the first tum in moto tw o on his RMZ2S0, but McMullen got around him on t he opening lap . Sandoval closed to Ewing's back fende r, and the two of Moos e Racing/Indy Cycle Kawasaki jockey Adam Haines had a great day, t aking all four rnoto wins in the 80cc Open ( 12- 15) and 80cc Senior classes . Kawasaki ride r Cory Love (3-2) was second in bot h classes , edging out Suzuki jockey jake Tyree (2-3) in each class. Josh East finished fourt h in b o t h cla sses on a n MSR/ cott/Flat Out Motorcycles Suzuki, in fro nt S of Honda rider Christopher Akaydin. josh Bixle r dominated the ju nior classes. ta king all four mo te w ins of the 80 cc Junior (7- 11) and 60cc (7- 11) classes o n his Suspensio n Plus/Cy cle Shed KTM. RE SULTS 50 O IL-INJ (4· 8): I. Ric ky McKinney Jr. (Co b); 2. Trey Ferrill (KTM): 3. Cole McGregor (KTM). 50 S H IFTE R: I. them started hounding McMullen for the top spot. McMullen we nt dow n, leaving the battle for the overall to Ewing and Sandoval. Ewing won the moto, but Sandoval won the overall with a I 2 tally. Eide went 4-3 for third, behind Ewing (3- 1). Kyle Reiter led every inch of the first 12Scc Novice moto. Dana Dreier battled with Nick Bussey over second for much o f t he race before brea king free and reel ing in Reiter fo r a close seco nd at the checke rs. Reiter got off to another good start in rnoto two, while Dreier had to play catch-up from fourth . It took Dreier four laps to catch Reit e r and make the pass to take first place with his 2- 1 efforts . Casey Huntley (4 - 3) round ed out the top thr ee , followed by Blake Harber (5-4) and Bussey (3-7). Chris Alekriejczyk e a r ne d the ope ning Schoolboy moto victory after amoco-long batt le wit h Curtis Malins. Mark Samuels came from w ay back (or a w e ll- d e s e r ve d third . Malins was engaged in anothe r war over the top spot in moto two, this time with Joey Bitto . Malins got the uppe r hand in the closing stages on his Montcl air Yamaha-backe d YZ2S0F to take home the overall.
