Some racers take we ll to the bigger b ikes and beg in to shine brighter t han they d id o n the smaller-bore machines . One such racer is Uhrichsville, Ohio, native jo hn Sluka. Sluka moved from Kawasaki 8Scc machines CMC Ca ctus State MX Series Round 2: Arizono Cycle Park to a 2S0 F Kawasaki in 2004. and he also moved from being a top-five Mini racer to a dominant French Fries 'em, Two Classes Worth's By ROBERT VAN DAMME BUCKEYE, AZ, OCT. 10 D o ug la s Frenc h took the overall in t he 125cc Junior class at the second round of the C MC Ca ctus State MX Ser ies, presented by The Pit Enterprises, Scott USA. AEO . Go rdy 's and Shift. Bobby Worth took the overall in the BScc ( 12- 13) division with a I-I score. For round two, promo ter Bobby W hite wanted to have some variety in th e series, so he bu ilt a seco nd t r a c k. Ho w e ve r, t he part icipants vo iced t heir opinions, saying that th ey st ill preferred the first track to the new one. So, with some subtle changes in the ma in track. the racers got their wis h. T he first 125cc Junior mote had French out in front at the start. As the pack approached the w hoop section, Jon D eit r ick was in second, foll o w e d b y Kyle j o ne s , Kyle He e te r. Ch r is Har ris. Colton Boul ange r. De nny Areas and Co rey Fo rd . Deitrick applied too much throttle a nd a lm o s t s lid o ut . a llowi ng Jo ne s by for second. During lap two, Heeter, Boulanger and Harris we nt down, w hic h a llowed Areas to move up into fourth, while Bishop passed Ford fo r fifth . At the conclusion of the mota, French finished in front of Jones by seven seconds to t ake th e w in. Third wen t to De it rick. The n came Areas , Bishop , Ford , He et er, Sylvia and john Mahon e y. Fre nch pulle d th e ho le shot fo r moto two, wit h De itr ick and Arcas sitt ing in second and third . Jones appea red to be th e fastest on the co urse , but a poor st ar t re legated him t o a catc h-up ro le. After the pack com pleted the first lap , jo nes was in fourt h, be hind Boulanger. Jones passed Boulange r on the back side of the 64 force in the 12Scc C ranks in Oh io's AMA course for fourt h. Then Areas was Jones' next victim, as Jones moved into third. De itrick, who made the trek fro m Southern California, kept Jones at bay for the next two laps, but on the s final lap Jones went by Deitrick on the hill for second. French took the checkered nag for the mota win and overa ll victory. Jones held on for seco nd, pursued by Deitrick, Areas, Boulanger, Hee ter, Ford and Bishop. The Be rn ie 's CycielM2R1Scoll USA-backed French also took the overall in the Super mini division. Worth made quick work of the 85 age class, besting bot h Brod ie Prather and Cody Katsila s. Prathe r, sitting in second during mota one, had a miscue on the final lap , handing the spot to Katsilas at the finish. Prat he r took second in mota two, while Katsilas was third , followed by James MacMaster and Cor ey McGrane. The Four Seasons Motor Sports-sponsored Worth also took the overall in the 8Scc Open class, but how he did it was a little comica l. In the first mota, Buddi Bruner took the win, over Worth, but in the seco nd mo ta Worth led the race from wire to wire after Bru ne r was late getti ng to the line for the mota . District 12. Sluka has won more than 20 races in 2004 , and this day at Beans Bike Park was no different. As the 125cc C racers passed the checkers at round six o f the Northern O hio Cha mpionship Series, Sluka was at the top in both motos, as he has been many times before. Giving chase in both mo tos were Cambridge, O hio 's Tyle r Farr ar a nd Lodi , Ohio 's Er ic Merriman, both of whom piloted Yamahas to their pod ium finishes. In the Mini ranks , two young racers finished the day with do uble class wins to their credit . Chris Ca rr o f Unio ntown , O hio , was the on ly racer to top Herrlei n on the day by winning the second mota, but a first-mota DNF took Carr out of the runn ing in the overall results. Carr wo uld late r top the 85cc Extra class. The other do ub le Mini winner wa s local racer Kyle Ditcher. Racing KTMs, Ditche r was able to jump out (ran t and show noth ing but roost to both the BScc (12-1 5) and Supermini classes . Wa r ren , O h io ' s Matt Stork kept Ditche r in sight in the BScc ( 12- 1S) contest for strong 2·2 mota scores, and Andrew Sachs of De nnison, Ohio , took th ird on his hometown track . Sachs wo uld la ter place second to Ditcher in the Supermini division. Although not a dou ble class winner, Cade Clason of Medina, Oh io, was the victor of the largest Mini class of the day. Clason rod e his KTM to th e top of both 6Scc (7-9) motos for the overall win, ahead of 20 other competitors. Stow, O hio's Austin Pateos and Jordan Brewer round ed out the top three.
