In Prem iere Open q ualifying act ion , Do ug took the holeshot, ahead of visiting American R.J. Overholt, whose spee dy pace con tinued to impress , as within fo ur laps he was able to pass Bill Wallin an d Dou g t o move into the lea d . W ith clear trac k ahead , Overholt cr uised on to the qua lifier win . Steve held on to finish in seco nd, w hile Do ug faded back to fo urt h. Bill Bar ke r, maki ng his first a ppearance at a SuperHoto Ca nada event, took third . As the feature got under way, Do ug saw his perfec t streak of holeshors come to an en d, as Steve was able to squeak through the inside for the lead. However, he was unable to capita lize on his solid start , as Overholt moved into first. When the checkers flew for the final time in 2004, the Premi e r O pe n class saw it s fou rt h differe nt winne r of 2004 , as Overholt took first place . Steve was able take hom e his second Na tional pod ium of t he year with a sec o nd place finish , and Bar ke r rod e ho me in th ird. Dou g crossed the line in sixt h, se curing t he 2004 Premiere O pe n National Championship title .
