""""' "'iItu the 2005 AMASupe rcross rounds in Anaheim! C as e y Hinson was o n his ga me and wa s undisputedly the fastest rider at the track. The Ame rican Suzuki/Claw son Motorsports/Moto XXXIThe Syndicate-backed rider's aspirations go we ll beyond going to watch a race in Anaheim. The IS-year-o ld is near the to p of his class in the Amateu r ranks and will most likely tum Pro late next summer. There's a lot of work to be done between now and then , and he had his nose to th e gr indstone in Hanford : He ra n away with bo th 25 0 cc Inte rme diate mo t o s a nd t he n followe d that up wit h a sweep of t he 29 and Under Open division. Once he had put in four or five hard la ps, Hinson disp layed some showma nship. The crowd lining the fences see med to en joy his whee lie s t hro ug h t he w hoo ps a nd huge w hips ove r t he t rip le . In addi tion to his class victories, Hinson ra n ou t front overall in all of his motos; that was especia lly imp ressive co nsidering the fact t hat he ra ced ~ alongside the 250cc Pro class in two of them . ~ Like H ins on , Du st in Pip e s hail s fr o m 2> Mad e ra, Ca lifornia. Th e rece ntly promoted b Intermedia te wa s also on the gas in Hanford . =<1· Ar me d with a fre sh Kawasaki KX2S0F, Pipe s took on a crew of fe llow Novice -class grads and z proceeded to show th em t he quickest way ::i arou nd the tra ck. The new thumper seemed to ~ agree with Pipes, who had be e n riding tw o ~ stroke s duri ng th e summe r. He go t d e ce nt starts in bot h motos and made the necessary W passes early on . His main compe titio n was iii Honda rider Kevin Wells, who is a not oriously ~ goo d st art e r. Wells sta yed tru e to h is 0.. re puta t ion, putt ing his Honda out fro nt early and battling w ith Pipes . Th e Kawasak i rider made it by, but Wells never fell below secon d in e ither moto. Jeremy Baeza finished third in the class with a pair of third-place rides . As goo d as the racing was, all signs pointed to things co ntinuing to get bet ter. With seve ral rid ers com ing of f o f a summ e r vaca tio n o f sort s, it loo ked like everyone was getting back g up to speed - a commodity of wh ich no one can get e nough. RESULTS 50 FIT: I. O rr CMC Tran s-Cal Seri es South Round 3: Raceto w n 395 Hames Tames the 'Townl By JOHN BETHEA ADELANTO, CA, SEPT. 26 C Casey Hinson did it all at raund three of the Anaheim Express Series: He wan all five races he entered, styled for the crawd and showed that he was the fastest rider at the track, turning lap times faster than those of the Pras. CMA Anaheim Express MX Series Round 3: Hanford Fairgrounds Eye on Anaheim By EDDIE GRAVELINE HANFORD, CA, SEPT. 26 all is the season in which many peop le get back into t he ir routi nes . Kids go back to school, parents regain their normal schedule, and so on. For motocross racers - at least tho se F in Ce ntral Ca lifornia - it' s time to get back to business. The kick-back night ser ies of the summer give way to the more prestigious "Sunday" races of fall. As the prestige increases, so do the incentives - or maybe it's vice versa. In any case , th e Californi a Motorcycle Assoc iation's Anahe im Express Series is the one that brings the mid-Cal MX cro wd back to life every year. The leve l of interest goes up for the Anaheim Expres s Se ries, because it gives riders of all skill levels (as opposed to Pros only) the chance to race for industry contingencies and some very big prizes - including a pair of tickets to one of apitaliZing on mistakes , 66 I-sponsored Tye Hames of Palmdale, Californ ia, scored two big wins over Honda of Ho uston's Trent Pugmire at the third ro und of the C MC FMF/MTA West Trans-Cal Series South at Racetow n 39S. Simi Valle y, Califo rnia's Pugmire rode his Varn erl Sinisalo Ameri can Hond a to ex pec te d wins in the first set of motos in both the 80cc (14- 16) and SOcc Supe rmini classes , dominating bot h - as he has so often done the past th ree years of almost unde feated racing against to ugh Southern California foes. However, in vary rare di s p lay o f awkward ne ss, the 14 -ye ar-o ld miscued twice big-time in the second stanza of eac h eve nt , and bo th times Hames was right there to pounc e. Hames sneaked aro und Pugmire on the first lap of the seco nd 80cc (14-IS) moto and barely fen ded off his lo ngt ime fo e . pre paring for another slugfest. Instead , Pugmire bobb led and fell, dro pp ing to a distan t third ; it took him nea r ly ha lf the mo to t o catch a nd pass CEF/Sidi/ Smit h-sponso red Bryce Huffman of Atascade ro , C al iforn ia, on a Powerhouse Suzuki. By then, t ho ugh, Hames had built an www.c yclenews.com insurmou ntable lead. In t he Supe rmi ni contest , Pugmire got his ty pical ho le shots in bo th motos a nd ro de flawlessly in the first one . But in the second mote, he crashed on the first lap, and Hames was again right there, pushing his FX!Tho r Suzuki into the lead and building another big advantage before Pugmire could make a comeback. Anothe r rider who see med highly disgusted with himself afte r a second -mote "failure" was O ne Industries' Donald Cho llar of Joshua Tre e. California . He rode his Fly/EVS Re nthal Ho nda / to victory in the first Fou r-Str oke mo to and the n fought hard thr oughout the seco nd moto to snatch the lead fro m Brian Burns. Several times. Cho llar attempted to pass, but failed. In despe rat io n, he t ried again in the final turn , pullin alongside Burns, but he came up short at g t he checkers. He rode back to his pits an d parked his bike angrily, rem oving his helmet and jersey and fli nging them aside before slumping down into a chair in misery. " I lost it," he lam ented . " I sho uld have passed him."
