N He easily won t he first two eve nts - the Class ic 2S0cc and C lassic 50Occ/750cc classes for brakele ss ma ch ines - and then finished a clo se second to Lew Woods in the 7S0 cc Sportsman final. Richtmeyer came ba ck later and beat Woo ds in the Veteran Over 35 final. Richt meyer starte d o ff t he p ro ceedi ngs with an easy w in on a brake le ss Harley Sprint in the co m bined 2S0 cc C lassic an d D ino saur con test. He to o k t he lead, ahead of Mike Landru m , Bar ry Bake r and Larry Gi lles pie, w hile Dino sau r riders Bruce Argetsinger an d Barry je nkins followed. Gillespie took th ird on the fifth lap, setti ng the final posi tio ns . Richtmeyer changed ove r to his Triumph for the next even t, the Classic 500cc/75Occ cont est . Scott Fluck led Do nnie War!, Richt meye r, Bill Gwy n and Dan Beher out of the seco nd turn. On the second lap, Richtm eyer took second off the second tum and got by Fluck in his favorite spot o n this track, entering turn three. on th e fourth lap. O nce in front , he pulled out to a 20yard advantage . Richtmeyer changed to ano ther Triumph for the thi rd even t, the 750cc Spo rts man contes t. He led a closely bunch ed pac k co mprised of Woods , Bill Reyno lds and Mel Brow n. O n lap two, Woods to o k a page from Richt meye r ' s book and dived hard unde r him as th ey entered th e third tu m to take the lead . Reyno lds took se co nd be fore Richt meyer cou ld re cover. W ith three laps left, Woods had a see m ingly com fortab le lead o f more th an 10 yards, but Richtmeyer tu rned it o n, and at the Austin Jo hnson thir d. Morgan slipped into th ird at the start o f lap two, w hile Bill slipped by RIch for the lead as they went down the back straight on lap fou r, se tt ing th e to p five spots. In the Supe nnini even t , Garn e r aga in pro ve d he was q uicke st . Ramirez was able to ma tch Garner's pace and ke ep him in sight , b ut at t he end of the day. Ramirez had to sett le for second in both races . Gagne is making th e tra nsition from sma ller bikes to the midsize mou nts . and he won t he 65c c (9 -1 I ) and B5cc N o vice class e s w it h re pea t w ins.
