South Fork Dirt Ride rs
It was Smothers, Brotherl
BY BRoe MIKEL
TAYlORVIW, II., AUG. 28
othe r Nat ure is a strange lady. While she
pounds so me areas, she spares others .
Luckily South For!< was in the "spare" column
,
t his weekend . Wh ile the surrounding areas
received heavy rain to the point that the streets
were nood ed. so mehow Sout h Fork d id not.
Maybe the praye rs form the CBMX guys wo r!<
well. The only down fall of the event was the fact
that a lot of people thought there was no way
that they would be able to race; they were very
surprised when they found out it was a great day
of racing! All of which Just goes to show that one
should always go to the races, no matter what.
Those who made the trip were treated to a
great track, and big cash was up for grabs from
Springfield's RTD Motorsports Inc. Not only did
RTD put up money for the riders, they brought
out their rig for support - and not only for their
riders, but for all riders present!
In the first SOccJunior mota, Bradon Meye r
battled for the lead w ith Jonathan Mand elke.
Meyer flashed by the checkered flag first for the
mot o win. In the second mota, Mande lke put
his bike in the front and this time held off Meyer
for the mota and overall win.
In the SOcc Senior class, someth ing strange
occurred at the end of the race : There was a
new winner. All year long, Cobra rider Zachary
Loeh r has shown new speed , which has resulted
in mota and ov e rall wins. In the first moto,
Loehr again took his spot at the top , with Jacob
Smothe rs second and Hayden Edwa rds third .
M
40th Anniversary
The second mot a pro ved that in motocros s,
one never knows w hat might happen : Loehr
finished seven th , which was good for th ird
o verall. Out front , Smo t hers too k a we lldese rved moto and overall win. Hayden finished
second for the moto and overall.
At the other end of the field, the Over 50
class pro vided som e good racing. Loren Coo k
and Robert Y
oung atta cked the trac k all day. In
t he first mota, Cook too k his Service Honda
CRSOO two-st roke to th e rna to win . The
second mota was more of the same , with Coo k
staying out front for the mota and overall win.
Young finished second for the mo ta and overall.
