The tape was placed near the parked campers and t e nt s set up by t he 15 r iders and many spectators. The seco nd section was muddy and taped t hr ou gh t he trees . Th is se ct io n w as referred to as "Bailie' s Bog," according to Utah Vintage Rider s presi de nt Jim Lipsco mb , wh o provided the beaut iful and scen ic land for this event . Volunteers have gro omed the course and pathway in years past, mak ing for a very long and diverse course. The th ird sectio n ran up a rocky st ream, and the bikes sank dramati cally, espe cially on the Expert riders' course. The fourth section was a hillclimb with a sharp right turn at its peak. The fifth section was through anothe r section of tre es and te sted the riders' log-jum ping skills . The sixth section was a loose-rocks climb. The racing action amo ng the Modern Classic Expe rt s was, as Fenton stated after t he first moto, "he ad-to -he ad co mpe t it ion." He was referring to archrival Travis Stevens. Fento n was hot and sweaty, but he still agreed to ta ke product shots for a local manufact urer - Fanny Gaiters Inc., ma ke rs of the most slender and padded rac ing t o ol pack availab le . Fento n improved his riding dramat ically in the secon d moto and wo n first place in the Expe rt class. The st o ry of th e day was t he very close competition be twe en Dale Beem an and Ray Winwa rd in the Modern Classic Nov ice class. Bee man was one point ahead in the first mota, but Winward ran a clean in the second. Their total points scored were even at the end of the event, but Winward won with a "tie breaker by deans ." The yo unge st ride r a t the event, Bro c k Fenton. 12. rode a brand-new Gas Gas 80 with a large r frame than that o f his previous 50cc machine. Brock scored a clea n in the second moto , despite his unfamiliar and larger machine. He appeared to be the happiest rider at the event. T he six-race, four-we e k ser ies is named for club member Kevin McNi· cholas, who died of cystic fibrosis, and all profits > go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation . In the Open Pro eve nt, Lynch to ok the lead from ja re d Mees , Ra un Wood and ja so n Isennock. Wh ile the others were battling over second , Lynch put a few bikelengths on the m on this small tra ck . After pou nding o n one another, Isennock slipped under Wood off the last turn to take third . Vir tua lly t he same cast of c haracters returned for th e Sportsman final, but it took three tries before they completed a lap. Each time , Lynch managed to grab the lead. On the official start, Lewis and Ryan Hend erson t railed Lynch , with Mees and Wood com ing from the pena lty line to co mp lete t he top five. After a few lap s, Mee s got by He nde rson, wh o fell a little later, taking Isennoc k with him. Brandon Robinso n too k two co nvincing wins , in the 4S0cc/ Open B and 2S0cc B finals, on his Robinson's Electric-sponsored machines. In the Open final. Henry Mangels led Robinson, Nicholas Henderson, Cory Texter and R.J. Hart . Ro binson slipped unde r Mangels off the second turn on lap three for the lead and pulled away. The others stayed close but in th e same order. The 2S0cc B contest was a wire-to-wire affair, with Robinson leadi ng Hart . Chris MacCarty and Ryan Babcock the entire distance. Shayna Texter re peated her tw o wins of the opening event in the 8Scc ( 12- 15) and Women's classes. Against the wo men, she jumped out to an early lead over Kelly Bell and Samantha Resch and was neve r challenged. In the SScc (12- IS) contest, she had heat w inner Evan Baer right o n he r tail the entire d istan ce , but he cou ldn't find th e spot to make his move past the Lancaster Harley-Davidson-sponsored rider. Seve ral rider s rep eated the ir class wins of the ope ning event. Jim Hollister pulled away from Damian Kocovinos and Chr is Hathaw ay to claim his second Over 30 victory. Tyler Kidwell re peated the 85c c (7- 1I) win, over Brett Pugh and Dere k Hersh . A co uple of old-timers too k re pe at w ins: Bob Babcock again topped the Ove r 40 class, while jack Ste dding took t he SOOcc Two-Valve victory. In the SOcc classes, Colton Smith topped the 50ce Oi l- Injected class, while N icholas Hor sey again won the 50cc (4-6) contest. joe Schmidt came through the field to take the 50cc (7-8) win away fro m Smith on the fifth lap . Dan Bromley had an easy time winning the 6Scc final, w hile joey Parks made the most of Robinson's being disqualified in the 12Scc heat to w in over Bryon Whipp erman and Chuck Mylin. Polin imounted Ryder Waite, riding for Mota Outfitters , Troy Lee Designs, SCa li USA and HRp, powe red his Polini to the win in bot h mot os of the SOcc (4-6) class. Taking second was Cobra rider Warren Higgins, who took runner-up he nors in both motos. Taking third was Michae l "Mikey" Ramirez (4-3), and Sean Reyes kept his Honda XR50 pinned the entire way for fourth place o n a 3·5 tally. Rou nding out the top five was Bailey Haines (5-4). The SOcc (7- 8) class wa s w o n by Polinimo un ted Zachary Berryman ( I- I) , who has pretty well ruled the class after several of th e to p riders moved on to 65s. Taking second was Cody Smith (3-2) , and Bills Moto rcycle Plusbacked Keltin Boykin (2-3) finished third. Taking fo urth was t he JjW Designs-backed Andrew Nesse l (4-4), and Tyle r Miller scored solid fifthplace finishes in both motos to take fifth overa ll. Benyman extended his dominance into the 6S classes, as he won both motos of the 60cc (6-8) class, wh ile Zachary Peace (2-2) placed second . Taking second was Fly-backed Mike Pontious (3-2), finishing third was Ch ris Kolde (4- 3), taking fourth was Eric Daining (2-S), and Mitch Dunn finished fifth (S-4). Th e SOcc Intermediate class saw a w hole slew of California riders invade the track, with Su pe r m ini-cl ass w inne r "Jum p in' John ny " Je ld e rda taking top honor s in bo th motos .
