Manchester e nded the first round by beating Randy DiFrancesco. Round two began w it h Dari o Galvin, 16, bea t ing Just in Boy le , 17 , for his fir st First Division w in. Geo rge Fox he ld off the har dcharging Castro to win race nine. Faria made it two for two with a win over De nny Scopellite. Buck Blair com pleted the second round with a victory ahead of Christian. Schwartz won , over Christian, to begin the final round . McConnell beat DiFrancesco to win race 14. Castro hande d Faria his only de feat in r a ce 15, a nd Ma nc heste r fini she d the pre liminary rounds by passing Ve negas for his second victory of the night. Faria, Schwartz, Chr istian and Venegas came to the tapes in t he first semi ~ every rider a fo rme r Fair De rby and Na tio na l Champion . Christian was pe nalized 20 yards for touching the tapes on the first attempt. Venegas and Schwartz battled fo r a lap befo re Schwartz se tt led into the lead . The n Faria went to the outside on lap three and first passed Venegas and t hen Schwartz to take the lead at the white flag. Faria e arn e d t he victory and a ro using ovation . Wild We st A re na Manchester Masterful at Wild West By RYAN EVANS WINCHESTER, CA, JULY 10 Two -time Nat iona l Champion Chris ManI cheste r capped a per fect night by winning the Scratch main at W ild Wes t Speedway in Winchester on Saturday. "Fast Eddie " Castro and Manchester bot h entered the main with perfect scores and were lined up in gates one and two , respective ly. Manchester was first into tu rn one, but he had to co nten d with SRA Nat ional Champion Scott Brant's ou ts ide att ack . Castro joined the fray e nte ring turn three but hit a rough spot on the trac k a nd we nt down, almost taki ng Bra nt do wn with him . C ast ro d id slow Bra nt considerably and ended any cha nce he had at Manchester, who pulled away for the win. Brant held on to second, Shaun Harmatiuk was third, Bobby Krips finishe d fourth , and Castro was credited with fifth. The r"" of three rounds of Scratch heats began wit h Brant winning in his Wild Wes t deb ut. Manchester, also racing at Winchester for the first time, beat Krips in race two. Castrodosed out round one by defeatingDenny ScopeIlite. Roun d two sta rte d wit h Ma nchest e r and Brant e ngaging in a fo ur-lap battle that saw Manchester emerge victor ious. Cast ro won his second race o f the night by hold ing off Justin Boyle. Krips defeated Nate Pe rkins to finish the secon d rou nd. The third round open ed w ith Manchester's t h ir d wi n o f t he eve ni ng . Bra nt d ef e at e d Harmatiuk for his second win in the next race . Castro kept pace w ith Manchester by winning the final heat. Harmatiuk he ld off Buck Blair to win the last-chance qualifier and book the final spot in the Scratch main. Th e Second Division main began with 15ye a r-o ld T im Go mez jumping to the front ent ering turn one. Gomez quickly stre tched his lead and w as well on his way to his fourth stra ight win when a prone rider forced him to lay down his bike on the third lap. Gomez was declared the winner, since two laps had been completed . Dale Facchini wa s se co nd, Rusty Hall finished third , Brian Starr was fourth , and Eloy Medellin finished fifth. Mar k Sincavage took the early lead in the Third Division main event. Veteran rider Mike Boyle stalked Sincavage for two laps before his pr essure paid off an d he took the lead . Boyle crui sed from there a nd w as first to the che ckered flag. Sincavage he ld o n to seco nd , Steve Dzia d us wa s third, De Wayne Stark finished four th, Kerry Con ner wa s firth, and Mike Nutting finished sixth. Ta ma ra Krips scored a pop ula r win by lead ing all four laps of th e Yout h main event. Down on th e line were 17 eager 5 Icc Int ermediat e 4- to 8-year-alds, all loo king to do som e wh ittling o f their own when the gate dropped (or mot o one. Co lton Camp mad e the first notch by taking the holeshot, and Anton io "The T iger " Ortiz, Louis Saxby, Nick Haw kins, Hayde n Brickw oo d , Jo sh Cornelius and Bre tt Pollock chipped into a battle for second . With a ta bletop jum p o f an adv an tage o n lap one, Camp had a firm grip on the lead , w hile Ortiz held o ff a du eling Saxby and Hawkins . The only sp linte r of a spri nter who could have caught Camp in moto one, Ortiz washed out and then stalled out his KTM. Cornelius roos ted his way up to batt le it out with Haw kins and Saxby, with Dylan C o ry following his lead and e xciting not only the pare nts but the fans who lined the fences as we ll. In the end , Camp dominated the first mota, with Cornelius , Hawkins, Cory and Saxb y all notching top-fives and Jako b Sepo r, Brickwood , Ortiz, C aleb W arn a nd Pollock etch ing their initials in the top 10. In mota tw o , Camp ripped thro ugh the holeshot corne r like a chainsaw art ist through pinewood , wi th Po llo c k, Sa xby, O r t iz , Brickwood, Cornelius and Hawkins digging in all the y co uld. Saxby and Ortiz wo rked their way aro und Pollock to battle fo r second , w hile Hawkins soared past Cornelius and Brickwood and was on Ortiz like a term ite . The best battles now developed as Hawkins whittled his way into second , with Brickwood , Cory, Saxby and several other riders cracking the top five mo me ntarily befor e the heat of the day mad e them fizzle backward . Camp ( I ~ I) was in a class of his ow n and carve d out first overall, over Haw kins (3-2), Cory (4 -3), Brickwood (7-4) and Sepo r (6- 5). Saxby (6-5), Co rnelius (2-9), Warn (9 -7) , Po llo ck ( 10 -8 ) an d Bran d o n Michand ( I 1-10 ) managed to record top- 10 overalls on a hot , 90 -degree day. RESULTS 50 ( 4 - 6) : I.
