wea the r to clear and some minor re ro uting of
the track, the races began. Eve ntually, t he sun
came out , everyo ne got bot h motos in, and the
show stillended pret ty early.
This was the second race of the year for this
track and the seco nd race ever for new owners
Kurt and Kelly Caswe ll. The most visible change
under the new ownership is the clearing of the
b rush o n the inter ior of t he trac k. W ho le
sections that previously had only been visible to
the flagmen are now easily seen from the main
spectato r areas. The other big difference is that
the '80s-era obstacles t hat we re le ft on t he
t rack ha ve be e n rep laced wi t h step -ups ,
tabletops and a new whoop section.
In t he first 125cc C moto, Justin Collins led
the first half of the race, but Ness splashed his
way into the lead for the win . Co llins he ld on

Kra mer. Ness made his w ay into th e lead a
few co rn ers into mot o two and wa s ne ve r
head e d . He was fo llowed overa ll by Collins
(2 -5) , Kev in Rode l (6-2), Kramer (4-4) and
Tony Selle (7-3).
Berm Be nde rs Race way has a lo ng and
storied history. Many qualifiers have bee n held
here over the years, and it was also one of the
first tracks to have a backward-falling gate. The
surface is fairly unique, as it isn't quite sand or
hard-packed. Dig it up, and it gets th ick and
ro ugh, like sand; pack it down, and it gets quite
hard-packed.
O ne se t of r id e rs t ha t m ight re me mbe r
front -falling gates was the combined O ver 30
class. In t he first mo to, multi time ice -racing
champio n Mark "Big" Deal took the lead and

last-lap charge through the whoops by Ulrich
came up sho rt, and Dea l took th e win. with
Michae l Moo res a close third. Ulrich grabbed
the holeshot in th e seco nd mo ta , only to stall
in t he third tu rn. Deal got by clean , and with
less th an half a lap down he had a big gap - but
t hen he sta lled . Moore s t o o k th e le a d and
hung on for the moto w in and the ove rall.
Ulrich work ed back up to se cond, followed by
Wes Wyman and Deal.
Mall Wodt ke won the 125cc B, 250cc B and
Schoolboy classes. The only ot he r rider to win
more tha n o ne class wa s Gavin Kadlec, who
won the 85cc (7- 1I) and 85cc (9- 12) classes .
